SME: 2019 Social Media Marketing Industry Report

SME (Social Media Examiner) released the "2019 Social Media Marketing Industry Report", surveying more than 4,800 marketers to understand how they use social media to grow and promote their business.

Key findings:

Facebook’s Decline : For the first time in the past five years, Facebook lost share as the most important platform for marketers, falling from 67% in 2018 to 61% in 2019. One in 10 marketers said they will reduce their organic marketing investment on Facebook. Only 51% of marketers plan to increase their Facebook activity, down from 62% in 2018.

Interest in Messenger Bots Declines : Only 14% of marketers use Messenger bots, down from 15% in 2018. Only 32% of marketers plan to increase their activity in this area, down from 39% in 2018. Interest in Messenger bots has dropped to 45% from 70% in 2018.

Instagram is hot : 73% of marketers use Instagram, up from 66% in 2018. It is the second most important social marketing platform after Facebook, surpassing LinkedIn for the first time. 69% of marketers plan to increase their Instagram activity in the next 12 months. Instagram is the platform that marketers most want to learn about, surpassing Facebook for the first time.

Curation matters most : This may be a reaction to the Facebook News Feed changes in early 2018 that incentivized meaningful social media interactions.

Interest in YouTube is high: 71% of marketers plan to increase their use of YouTube videos, and 75% want to learn more about the platform. YouTube is the number one video channel, with 57% of marketers currently using it.

Facebook ’s dominance remains strong : 94% of marketers use Facebook (followed by Instagram at 73%). 61% of marketers claim Facebook is their most important social platform. 72% of marketers use Facebook ads, and 59% plan to increase their use of Facebook ads in the next 12 months.
