Science Fiction Network, November 28 (Jin Kaiyi) A good figure seems to be the goal pursued by many people. In order to quickly have a perfect figure, some people choose to lose weight through dieting and vomiting, but ignore the serious physical and mental effects of these behaviors. There is a real case: a 19-year-old girl went on a diet and vomited to lose weight, which caused her body to become deformed and she was diagnosed with an eating disorder. It is reported that the girl started to lose weight in junior high school, only consuming low-calorie vegetable leaves every day and drinking water when hungry. She once lost nearly 20 kilograms in a month. But once she ate staple food, her weight would rebound wildly. Then she began to try to induce vomiting. Two months later, her teeth were severely corroded, her cheeks were swollen, and many parts were deformed. After diagnosis, she was diagnosed with an eating disorder. Eating disorders are common in adolescents and young women. They refer to abnormal eating behaviors and a high level of concern and anxiety about food, weight, and body shape. They are classified as "physiological disorders related to psychological factors" in the classification of mental disorders. Eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, pica, and rumination disorder. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are currently the two most common types. Many people think that eating disorders are at most malnutrition and poor digestion, but the harm of eating disorders is far more serious than imagined. Eating disorders not only cause physical harm such as metabolic disorders, anemia, and hypokalemic alkalosis, but also lead to psychological problems such as insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Every 62 minutes, a patient with an eating disorder dies in the world. Among patients who die from severe eating disorders, 80% die from physical complications caused by organ failure, and 20% die from suicide. Among them, suicide is more common in patients with anorexia nervosa. Occasional dieting and vomiting are also very harmful to the body. Not eating for a long time will cause blood sugar to drop too low, and the body will consume muscle to maintain normal functioning. While becoming centripetal obesity, it will also suppress immunity and make people more susceptible to illness. Completely not eating carbohydrates will cause adverse reactions, such as hypoglycemia, hunger, flushing and increased heart rate, itchy skin, and even poisoning symptoms such as rashes and constipation. Repeated vomiting may cause the face to become wider and bigger, and stomach acid may corrode the esophagus and teeth. Moreover, long-term vomiting may cause the esophagus and stomach to be compressed, and in severe cases, may cause bleeding. Therefore, weight loss should be done rationally and scientifically, limiting the energy intake from total fat and sugar, increasing the intake of fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains and nuts, and exercising regularly to lose weight healthily. |
