A new study from Deakin University in Victoria, Australia, found that mothers who browse social networking sites such as Facebook more often are more likely to be anxious than other mothers. In a study of 528 Australian mothers, Deakin University found that anxiety levels among mothers of preschool children increased with the amount of time they spent using a smartphone or tablet - but not with watching television. "We know that looking after young children takes a lot of energy from mothers, but if they spend a lot of time on a computer, phone or tablet they can easily become anxious," said Megan Teychenne, a researcher at Deakin University's Institute of Physical Activity and Nutrition. Te Chenni believes that one of the explanations for this phenomenon is that when women browse social networking sites, they are likely to have negative emotions and even affect their mental health. It’s worth mentioning that the study also found that no matter how much time mothers spent on physical exercise, they were still more likely to be anxious if they spent a lot of time on social media. At the same time, Te Chenni also pointed out that women aged 25 to 44 are twice as likely to suffer from anxiety disorders as men of the same age. |
