Mashable: Apple is falling behind in the smartphone race

Apple's global iPhone shipments rose 13% last year, but its growth rate lagged behind its competitors in the smartphone market, arguably the company's most important market.
In 2013, Apple's iPhone shipments rose to 153.4 million units, up from 135.9 million in 2012. However, Samsung, one of Apple's biggest competitors in smartphones, saw its shipments rise from 219.7 million units to 313.9 million units, a growth rate of 43%. In comparison, the overall smartphone market grew by 38.4%.
New data compiled by IDC, which provided some insight into Apple's latest earnings report released on Monday, shows the following chart tracking global smartphone shipments for several companies over the past year.
