Distimo: Data shows that AppStore revenue grew 15% in the past six months, while Google Play grew 67% in the same period

Google Play's revenue has grown rapidly this year, thanks in large part to Japan and South Korea. A new report released today by app store analytics firm Distimo shows that in the first six months of this year, Google's market revenue grew 67% month-on-month, while Apple's store only grew 15% month-on-month during the same period.

These figures reflect the impact of Android's huge market share on the application development industry. However, at present, Apple's store revenue is still twice that of Google's store, and the growth rate is not so beautiful, mainly because of the large base.

In April this year, another analysis agency, AppAnnie, reported a different conclusion. At that time, the report believed that Apple Store revenue increased by 2.6 times quarter-on-quarter. However, there are big differences between the two companies in terms of survey scope and survey cycle. Distimo surveyed the revenue of all listed apps in 18 largest markets, and the cycle was half a year instead of quarterly as App Annie did.

This shows that the revenue growth of the Google market is still worth mentioning. In February 2013, Google's market revenue accounted for only 25% of the combined revenue of Apple and Google. Now in July, this figure has become 33%, an increase of 8%.

Japanese and Korean whirlwind

The United States is still the country that spends the most on apps, followed by Japan and South Korea. The three countries make up the majority of Google's market revenue. The top three are followed by the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Canada, France, Russia, and Italy. Among them, Russia is the region that spends significantly more on the iPad market than the iPhone.

In the list of the most profitable apps last month, the Google Store's list reflects the outstanding profitability of Japan and South Korea. Candy Crush Saga ranked first, followed by Japan's Puzzles & Dragons, the third and fifth are both apps from South Korea's Kakao, and the fourth is LINE.

Looking at Apple, there is only one Japanese game in the top five.

Next is the paid list. The Apple Store is full of games except WhatsApp, while the Google Store is a mixture of games and apps.
