According to research firm IHS (formerly iSuppli), smartphones will account for 54.5% of the mobile phone market by 2015. They predict that global smartphone shipments will reach 1.03 billion in 2015, up from 478 million in 2011. Currently, smartphones account for 32.5% of the market. A huge share of the growth is clearly coming from the low-end market, which will help companies like Samsung (with its own Bada OS) become a significant player. IHS says that during the second quarter of 2011, Samsung's smartphone sales grew by 600%, thanks to low-end products sold in China and Latin American countries. IDC, another research firm, estimates that Samsung sold about 17 million smartphones in the second quarter of this year.
