eMarketer: Men are gradually catching up with women in social network usage

eMarketer predicts that there will be 158 million social network users in the United States by the end of 2012. More than half of these users are women, and eMarketer believes that this situation will continue, but the two will get closer. This is especially true for Facebook. Currently, 55% of Facebook users are women, a decrease from 57% in 2010, and is expected to drop to 53.2% in 2014.

Gender distribution of social network users in the United States

White people still make up the majority of American social networks, but other groups are also expanding.
