Facebook accounts for 95% of social networking site visits

On December 21, 2011, the American technology blog Business Insider reported that the time people spend on Facebook accounts for 95% of all visits to social networking sites.

This conclusion was drawn by Ben Elowitz, co-founder and CEO of the American media company Wetpaint, referring to the data of the Internet traffic monitoring agency comScore. In addition, Twitter, another social giant, has a greater advantage in traffic on mobile devices than on desktop devices.

Elowitz commented on this phenomenon: "There is no doubt that social networking sites now refer to Facebook. If you want to attract consumers' attention, you must make your ads appear in their Facebook news feed."

This is good news for Facebook, considering the company recently announced a plan to embed ads in users' Facebook news feeds. If the media outlets agree with Elowitz, embedded ads will become a money-making tool for Facebook, keeping the company afloat for at least the next decade.
