The understatement: Statistics show that Google executives rarely use Google+

On October 5, 2011, the American technology blog Theunderstatement released a report yesterday saying that Google CEO Larry Page has only posted 7 public messages on Google+, and other Google executives generally use Google+ very rarely.

Google+ has been launched for more than three months, but Page has only posted seven public messages on the service, and has only posted one public message since mid-August. Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt has not posted a single public message, but he has used Twitter many times during this period.

According to statistics from Theunderstatement, this situation is very common among Google executives. Among the 12 executives listed on the Google management team page, only 3 have ever posted public information on Google+, a total of 29 posts, and only 6 in September.

Of the six senior vice presidents appointed by Page after he took office in April this year, four have not posted any public Google+ information since August. The total number of public information they have posted so far is only nine, eight of which are from Android head Andy Rubin.

Overall, 11 of the 18 most senior Google executives either don't use Google+ or never post anything publicly on the service, while five use it only rarely. Only Google+ head and Google senior vice president of social Vic Gundotra and Chrome senior vice president Sundar Pichai regularly post publicly on the service.

Industry insiders believe that the participation of senior executives is one of the necessary elements for the success of a social service. For example, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg once said that he would spend the whole day on Facebook; and Twitter CEO Dick Costolo also posted at least 30 Twitter messages on Monday.
