Twitter continues to optimize its advertising products. After launching the Promoter Tweets advertising product for users, people are very concerned about how users will react when they see ads in their news feeds. A Lab42 survey of U.S. Twitter users in August 2011 found that only 11.1% of U.S. Twitter users listed following brands as the primary reason for using the site. The main reasons were following friends (17.4%), having a good laugh (15.6%), getting news (15.1%) and sharing news (13.9%). In addition, half of Twitter users follow 1-10 brands on the site, only 10.6% of respondents said they follow no brands, and 8.2% of users follow more than 50 brands. But when it comes to users' response to Twitter's advertising product Promoted Tweets, the feedback is positive. Only 10.9% of users think it is annoying and affects their experience. In contrast, Twitter users are more open to this type of advertising, with 24.8% saying that the promotional information they see is relevant to them; more than 1/5 of users said they received a discount (21.6%), and 21.2% of users discovered a new brand through this, and 14% of users forwarded the promotional information. |
