Do you want to know some small questions about myopia surgery?

Do you want to know some small questions about myopia surgery?

Many people have tasted the sweetness of myopia surgery, but many friends still hesitate to undergo it. Today, I will talk to you about myopia surgery.

1. Understand the medical history

Before undergoing myopia surgery, the doctor will ask about your past medical history in order to better determine whether you are suitable for myopia surgery. For example:

1. Has your eye had any active inflammation recently, such as red eyes, pain, photophobia, tearing, or some chronic eye disease? If so, you cannot undergo myopia surgery for the time being.

2. Myopia surgery has strict contraindications. Myopia patients with special eye diseases, some systemic diseases, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women cannot undergo myopia surgery.

3. There are also age requirements for myopia surgery, and the surgery can only be performed after the age of 18.

2. Preoperative Preparation

Stop wearing soft contact lenses for 1 week before preoperative examination

Rigid gas permeable contact lenses should be discontinued for 3-4 weeks

Orthokeratology lenses should be discontinued for more than 3 months

3. Preoperative Examination

Zhang Qingsong, deputy chief physician, member of the Refractive Subcommittee of the Ophthalmology Committee of the China Association of Non-public Medical Institutions, and director of the Refractive Department of the Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University (Aier Eye Hospital Group Hubei General Hospital), said: Preoperative examination is equivalent to a comprehensive physical examination of the eyes to determine whether you are eligible for myopia refractive surgery. If the eye examination shows acute conjunctivitis, blepharitis, keratitis, corneal ulcers and other eye diseases, the relevant eye diseases must be cured before myopia surgery can be performed. At the same time, preoperative examinations can be used to predict postoperative vision and formulate surgical plans.

If the preoperative examination passes, congratulations, you are one step closer to getting rid of myopia; if the preoperative examination fails, you must listen to the doctor's advice.

A few questions about myopia surgery

Today we have invited Liu Hongting, PhD, associate chief physician, master's supervisor, and deputy director of the refractive department of the Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University (Aier Eye Hospital Group Hubei Headquarters), to answer your questions.

1. Can the patient undergo surgery if he has a fever?

Answer: You cannot undergo myopia surgery if you have a fever.

2. Can women undergo surgery during their menstrual period?

A: There is no clear rule for menstrual period. Since it is elective surgery, we try to avoid menstrual period. But there is no mandatory rule.

3. Can I have surgery during pregnancy?

A: Surgery is not recommended during pregnancy. However, myopia surgery does not affect pregnancy preparation. You can prepare for pregnancy one month after stopping medication after surgery.

4. I heard that laser surgery in summer is prone to inflammation? Recovery is slow in winter?

Answer: Laser surgery for myopia is a minimally invasive surgery performed on the cornea. There are no blood vessels on the cornea, so it will not bleed and will not get inflamed due to weather conditions. There is no such thing as a slow recovery in winter. This surgery can be performed in spring, summer, autumn and winter.

5. Why should you stop wearing contact lenses before going for a checkup?

Answer: Because contact lenses, also known as corneal contact lenses, will have a certain impact on the refractive state of the eyes and the corneal morphology, causing errors between the inspection data and the actual data. In order to ensure accurate preoperative data and postoperative results, it is necessary to stop wearing them for a period of time before performing a preoperative examination.
