If you experience these 5 symptoms, be alert that it may be cataracts!

Cataracts are a blinding crisis that everyone may encounter. Generally speaking, as we age, our metabolism changes, and like graying hair, the lens begins to become cloudy. This is age-related cataracts, which are common in middle-aged and elderly people.

However, most patients know very little about cataracts. Today, let's learn in advance what symptoms indicate that you may have cataracts? Cataracts are a blinding eye disease that must not be taken lightly. Ignoring it may result in blindness.

The following are some common symptoms, please check yourself:

01. Vision gradually blurs

A common symptom of cataracts is progressive blurring of vision. If the normal vision of a person is through a piece of clear glass, then the vision of a cataract patient is like through a piece of "frosted glass", and everything is blurry. As time goes by, the blurriness may gradually increase until it becomes completely blurred.

02. Double vision

The appearance of aperture when looking at things is mainly because in the early stage of cataract, the lens has not yet become completely cloudy and some parts are still transparent. Therefore, when the light hits the lens and is refracted to the retina, double or even multiple images will appear.

03. Presbyopia suddenly improved

Some elderly people found that their presbyopia symptoms suddenly improved and they could read and write without reading glasses, which made them very happy.

In fact, this is only a temporary phenomenon and is a typical symptom of the early stage of cataracts. As the cataract progresses, vision becomes unclear whether it is far or near.

04. Dark shadows, shadows, and color recognition are reduced

When cataracts occur, some patients will find that their color recognition decreases, the world in front of their eyes is no longer as bright as before, and the color contrast of objects is no longer clear and strong, as if the world has turned into black and white.

05. Day blindness or night blindness

Some cataract patients may also experience day blindness or night blindness. Day blindness refers to the vision in bright light being worse than in the evening or at night; night blindness is just the opposite, the vision at night or in dim light suddenly becomes worse than before.

Dr. Zhou Li, associate chief physician, deputy director of the cataract group of Aier Eye Hospital Group in Hubei Province, and deputy director of the cataract and presbyopia department of Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University (Aier Eye Hospital Group Hubei General Hospital), reminds everyone: When the above symptoms appear, you may have cataracts! It is recommended to check early and treat in time.
