Society is developing, but infertility is rampant?

Nowadays, you can see "infertility" advertisements everywhere, whether on TV, the Internet or newspapers. As the phenomenon of late marriage and late childbearing becomes more and more common, many friends of childbearing age pay more and more attention to their careers, and their mental and psychological pressures gradually deepen. More and more people cannot conceive. According to statistics, there are currently 50-80 million infertile people in the world. The World Health Organization predicts that in the 21st century, infertility will become the third largest disease after tumors and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. So what is infertility?

Infertility refers to a couple who have not taken any contraceptive measures and have regular sexual intercourse for at least 12 months without achieving clinical pregnancy, which seriously damages the reproductive health of about 15% of couples of childbearing age. Infertility is divided into primary infertility and secondary infertility. Those who have never had a history of pregnancy and have never been pregnant without contraception are considered to have primary infertility; those who have had a history of pregnancy but have not been pregnant for 12 consecutive months without contraception are considered to have secondary infertility. The occurrence of infertility is closely related to age. The prevalence of infertility refers to the total number of infertile patients in the childbearing population (22 to 40 years old) at a certain point in time. It is the number of new and old cases of infertility in the surveyed population at a specific time, regardless of the time of onset. The incidence of infertility in my country is 7% to 10%.

Infertility is a reproductive disorder caused by a variety of causes, which seriously endangers the reproductive health of couples of childbearing age. When the following situations occur, infertility is often caused:

1. People with lesions or damage to the fallopian tubes, pelvic cavity, uterus and appendages: Women who have suffered from pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids or other diseases or have had multiple abortions are prone to secondary infertility.

2. People with hypothalamic and pituitary lesions: It can cause amenorrhea and menstrual disorders, leading to infertility.

3. Patients with abnormal thyroid function: such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, which can cause a series of endocrine and metabolic problems, leading to infertility.

4. Women who are too obese or too thin: It can induce hypothalamic amenorrhea and lead to infertility.

5. Patients with polycystic ovary syndrome: due to hormone disorders, they are prone to infertility.

6. Men with sexual dysfunction, prostatitis, testicular inflammation, and semen abnormalities often suffer from infertility.

7. In addition, some patients with unexplained infertility, that is, patients for whom no clinical cause can be found, have inflammatory chemicals in their peritoneal fluid that can affect ovulation, fallopian tube motility and other pregnancy processes, thus making it difficult to conceive.

If infertility is discovered, if the reproductive systems of both husband and wife are healthy, detailed examinations can be done to find out the cause of the infertility, and then symptomatic treatment can be given, which can generally achieve the goal of cure.

In most countries, the availability, accessibility and quality of infertility interventions remain a major challenge. The diagnosis and treatment of infertility are often not listed as a priority in national population and development policies and reproductive health strategies, and rarely receive public health funding. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has a history of more than 30 years, and more than 5 million children have been born worldwide through interventions such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, in many parts of the world, especially in low- and middle-income countries, these technologies are not yet popular, and people still largely cannot access or afford these technologies. Therefore, strict management and regulation are needed, and we hope that infertile patients in our country can eventually be cured.
