When to plant lantern fruit

Spring open field cultivation. The field management of spring open field cultivation can refer to spring early-maturing cultivation. The cold season is around mid-April, which can ensure the normal growth of the plant clusters. The row spacing is about 50 cm and the plant spacing is 10-13 cm.

Autumn cultivation is the raising of seedlings from late June to July, which reduces the survival rate and has a higher total yield.

How to plant lantern fruit

The lantern fruit likes warmth and cannot tolerate frost.

1. Seed sowing. Seeds germinate quickly at around 30°C; during the seedling growth period, 20-25°C and no less than 17°C at night are suitable for growth.

During the flowering and fruiting period, the temperature should be 20-25℃ during the day and not lower than 15℃ at night, otherwise it will easily cause flowers and fruits to fall.

When the temperature is below 10℃, the plants stop growing. When the temperature is below 0℃, the plants are frozen.

According to investigation, the seedlings' ability to withstand low temperatures is not mature, so the outdoor reproduction period cannot be too early, and they must be planted after the late frost.

2. Use the horizontal sowing method to dig radial longitudinal grooves from the plant cluster outward in spring, with a depth of about 15 cm. Select healthy one-year-old new branches, bend the branches downward, and guide them horizontally to the longitudinal grooves so that the entire branch is close to the bottom of the groove. Several branches can be placed in the groove, and a certain distance must be left between the branches to allow new roots to grow. Then fill the groove with soil, and the top of the branch is exposed to the ground. Cultivate the soil in batches to allow the base of the new shoots to take root. When the leaves fall in autumn, separate each new plant with roots from the mother plant to become an independent plant. Horizontal layering is easy to operate, has a high survival rate, and the seedlings are strong.

Nutritional conditions

The lantern fruit is sensitive to nutritional conditions. If there is too much nitrogen fertilizer in the soil, or the ratio is unbalanced, the plant will be greedy for green and mature late, and the fruit quality will be poor. Insufficient nutrition will result in short plants and small berries, but they will color quickly, mature early, and have low yields. Therefore, organic fertilizers should be used as the main fertilizer, supplemented with chemical fertilizers. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers should be used as the main fertilizers in the early growth period, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be used as the main fertilizers in the later period to ensure the needs of each period.
