Presbyopia disappears? Maybe this eye disease is coming

In fact, everyone will suffer from presbyopia, because it is a normal result of human aging, just like the graying of hair. Presbyopia requires the help of reading glasses to see things close up clearly. Some elderly people suddenly find that their presbyopia symptoms have been alleviated, or that their presbyopia has disappeared. What is going on?

Presbyopia gone? Cataracts here

Some elderly people with cataracts may experience a reduction in presbyopia symptoms in the early stages of the disease, and may even be able to see nearby objects clearly without reading glasses. Some elderly people may be very grateful, but in fact, this may be due to cataracts.

Dr. Zhou Li from Wuhan University Aier Eye Hospital said that if cataracts occur at the same time as presbyopia, the lens fibers will degenerate, swell and become cloudy, increasing the refractive power of the central part, making things close up clearer. This makes it seem as if the original presbyopia symptoms have suddenly disappeared or alleviated. In fact, the truth behind this is cataracts.

Cataracts are not to be feared, surgery is the only solution

According to clinical medical statistics, cataract is a major eye disease that causes blindness and vision loss in the elderly. If cataracts are allowed to develop, they can cause complete blindness in the late stage.

Although cataracts can cause vision loss or even blindness, surgery can effectively improve or restore clear vision in cataract patients. There is no other cure for cataracts.

Some people may worry that elderly people, such as those in their eighties or nineties, can still undergo cataract surgery? In fact, age is not a contraindication for cataract surgery. With a good preoperative examination, anyone who meets the requirements can undergo cataract surgery.
