At present, there are more and more cancer patients. Cancer treatment can be carried out through surgical resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and other methods. For some cancers that have no surgical indications, they can only be treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In the past, the treatment view of cancer was to eliminate cancer cells in the body as much as possible. Now more and more views tend to "live with tumors". How to live with tumors? This article attempts to give a simple answer. Cancer cells are present in everyone's body, because cancer cells are essentially mutated cells, which are derived from normal cells and are the source of cancer. However, cancer cells are different from normal cells in that they have three major characteristics: unlimited proliferation, transformation and easy metastasis. Proliferation and metastasis: Cancer cells can proliferate indefinitely and destroy normal cell tissues. They can also locally invade surrounding normal tissues and even metastasize to other parts of the body through the circulatory or lymphatic systems. Malignant transformation: In fact, cells in the human body become malignant every day, but when the number is small and has not accumulated to a certain extent, the tumor suppressor gene products and the body's defense mechanism can eliminate them. So although cancer cells are not too far away from us, not everyone will get cancer. In addition, the sensitivity and number of oncogenes are affected by genetics, so under the same environment, different individuals have different chances of getting cancer (for example, some people who smoke do not get lung cancer, while some non-smokers get lung cancer). The mutation of normal cells into cancer cells is a multi-step process: generally, mild atypical hyperplasia occurs first, followed by moderate and severe atypical hyperplasia, and then develops into carcinoma in situ, which takes several years to decades. The precancerous process of different cancers lasts for different periods of time and has its own characteristics. What is Living with Cancer? Some early cancer tumors can be completely removed and cured through surgery or other methods, while some late-stage cancers can only prolong the patient's life as much as possible and there is no better cure. In addition, there is a special treatment method. After the patient undergoes effective systemic anti-tumor treatment, common cancer symptoms (such as bleeding, cancer pain, cough, dysphagia, etc.) disappear, the local tumor further shrinks, the cancer cells no longer spread, the condition is long-term stable and tends to improve, the patient is generally in good condition and can work and live independently. In other words, the body's immune protection function is greater than the tumor's ability to spread, so that cancer cells are "static" and "dormant" for a long time, and the patient is in a healthy state of clinical cure. We call this method "living with cancer." In life, few people can scientifically understand "coexisting with tumors". More patients will feel hopeless when they hear that they cannot be sure whether surgery is needed. In fact, surgery is not the only treatment for all tumors, and success does not mean cure. The World Health Organization regards cancer as an incurable and lifelong chronic disease. "Living with tumors" does not mean conservatively waiting without treatment, but a gentle treatment that weighs the pros and cons and chooses the treatment that suits you. Now the concept of "living with tumors" is also being accepted by more and more patients, and the efficacy characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine are in line with this trend. Therefore, traditional Chinese medicine will play an increasingly important role in comprehensive treatment. Research on traditional Chinese medicine is an important aspect that cannot be ignored in tumor prevention and treatment. How to survive with a tumor If you want to have a long survival period with cancer, the key is two aspects: one is that the tumor is low in malignancy and grows slowly; the other is that it is easy to treat and has a good prognosis. The vast majority of early cancers have a long survival period, such as early lung cancer, early gastric cancer, and early colorectal cancer. No matter which type can be discovered, 80%-90% can be cured without affecting normal life expectancy. In addition, prostate cancer (also known as "no cancer" or "inert cancer", with less metastasis), cervical cancer (also known as "lazy cancer"), thyroid cancer (also known as "happy cancer", with a high cure rate and almost no impact on life expectancy), and bladder cancer (also known as "kind cancer") also meet these characteristics. In summary, there are two points about survival with tumor: 1. The cancer is not highly malignant. Cancers with a relatively low degree of deterioration, such as thyroid cancer and prostate cancer, develop slowly. If the condition is controllable, the damage caused by surgery may be greater than the cancer itself, and there is no need for tumor removal surgery. As long as regular checkups and drug control are carried out, the patient can live with the tumor. In this case, the patient can also achieve a longer survival period and improve the quality of life as much as possible. 2. Patients with good physique and normal immunity. Patients with strong immunity, good physique, good mentality and good immune function can eliminate some proliferating cancer cells through immune cells in the body, so that the cancer cells in the body are in a dynamic relative balance state and coexist peacefully with normal cells. Finally, although some cancers can be survived, there is one thing that needs to be reminded: if the patient feels that the cancer is not highly malignant, and leaves it alone, it will eventually lead to disaster. Therefore, no matter what type of cancer, it must be treated seriously according to the standards of malignant tumors, and early prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment are necessary. In conclusion: Cancer has always been defined as a terminal illness. Although there are many treatments that can significantly extend the lifespan of cancer patients, people's inherent cognition is difficult to change. If diagnosed with cancer, most people's mentality will change negatively, and negative psychology will cause symptoms such as decreased appetite and sleep disorders, which will further lead to decreased immune function. The treatment of cancer is closely related to immune function. In fact, not only cancer, but the treatment of most diseases is related to our body's immune function. Therefore, no matter what the result is, we must face it with a good attitude. It may be difficult, but everything depends on human efforts, isn't it?
