ADHD, are you affected?

ADHD, are you affected?

ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), commonly known as ADHD.

ADHD is not a matter of willpower.

★ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder.

★ADHD symptoms are related to two neurotransmitters: dopamine and norepinephrine.

★Main symptoms of ADHD: distraction, impulsivity, hyperactivity, procrastination, anxiety, inattention, and impairment of executive function.

After learning this, do you feel like you have one more disease? ADHD is confusing and can be confused with the inattention of ordinary people. ADHD exists not only in children but also in adults.

Many people fill out a questionnaire online and say they have ADHD. Let's not talk about whether the self-filled questionnaire will match the horoscope. In fact, the diagnosis of ADHD is a very complicated "project". Even if the questionnaire meets the requirements of ADHD diagnosis, it still requires an experienced doctor to collect medical history, conduct observation interviews, laboratory tests, psychological assessments, etc.

So, how do we define true ADHD? Or is there no such thing as a normal person who is "inattentive"? Next, let's give a detailed and in-depth answer to the question.

PART1 What is ADHD? ADHD symptoms are not a problem of "quality" but a problem of "quantity". To a certain extent, they represent the severity of ADHD symptoms.

What does this sentence mean? Let's not talk about ADHD for now, let's take depression, which is well known to everyone, as an example. People with depression must have depressed emotions! For example: feeling down, sad! Are there many people with depression in life? There are too many, but we can't say that a person has depression just because he has depression. Because there is always a stage in everyone's life when they will have depression. There are many indicators for diagnosing depression, two of which are very important indicators: it lasts for at least two weeks and affects the normal performance of social functions, for example: it causes impairment in the functions of life, study, work and other fields.

Similarly, ADHD symptoms, such as inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, etc., are common in many of us. Moreover, it is very likely that ADHD symptoms are very obvious at a certain stage in our lives, and we suffer from certain pain subjectively. For example, when we suffer from sleep, anxiety, and depression for a long time.

Therefore, many people think they have ADHD. Based on the diagnosis of ADHD in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th Edition), there are many indicators or requirements for diagnosing ADHD. We will talk about four very important indicators.

PART2 ADHD diagnostic criteria 1) Duration: ADHD symptoms persist for at least six months.

2) Severe impairment of social function: For example, a child with ADHD cannot concentrate and cannot concentrate in class, which leads to serious academic lag; an adult makes mistakes at work due to ADHD symptoms and is fired many times, which affects his social function. You say you have ADHD, but if all areas of social function are intact, you cannot be diagnosed with adult ADHD.

3) The "specificity" of the occurrence and explanation of ADHD symptoms: These symptoms do not occur in the course of schizophrenia or other mental disorders, and are not easily explained by other mental disorders (emotional disorders, anxiety disorders, dissociative or personality disorders).

4) The requirement of “quantity” for diagnosis: When the “quantity” changes to a certain extent, it will lead to qualitative change. Attention deficit or hyperactivity-impulsivity items must meet at least six symptoms and be inconsistent with the developmental level. This can be said to meet the diagnostic requirements in the dimension of symptomatology.

ADHD is very different from the average person at the genetic level, brain level, and cognitive ability level. It is far more than the diagnostic results on the scale or the external behaviors of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.

If you answered “yes” to many of these questions, consider seeing a doctor. The earlier you catch it, the sooner you can get treatment.
