Normal breast position

Normal breast position

The shape of breasts can vary greatly depending on factors such as race, genetic inheritance, age, and breastfeeding. In my country, the breasts of adult women are generally hemispherical or cone-shaped, basically symmetrical on both sides, and have a certain degree of relaxation or slightly flattening after weaning. The breasts of middle-aged women are often shrunken, sagging and soft. The central part of the breast is the nipple. Normal nipples are cylindrical or cone-shaped, bilaterally symmetrical, and have a light pink or dark brown surface.

The diameter of the nipple is 0.8 to 1.5 cm, with many small houses on it, which are the openings of the milk ducts. The darker pigmented ring of skin around the nipple is the nipple. The diameter of the nipple is 3 to 4 cm and the color varies. It is rose red during puberty and becomes dark red with increased pigmentation during pregnancy and lactation. The skin of the breast is thicker around the glandular ducts and thinner around the nipple and papilla. Sometimes superficial veins can be seen through the skin in the subcutaneous tissue.

The breasts are located in front of the pectoralis major muscles on both sides of the chest, and their position is also related to age, body shape and breast development level. The breasts of adult women are generally located between the 2nd to 6th ribs of the chest, with the inner edge close to the shoulder blade and the edge reaching the axilla, and reaching the mid-axillary line when the breasts are thick.

The narrow and long part on the outer side of the breast extends from the axillary end of the breast to the armpit. The nipples of young women are generally located at the level of the 4th or 5th intercostal space, 1 cm outside the midclavicular line; the nipples of middle-aged women are located at the level of the 6th intercostal space, 1 to 2 cm outside the midclavicular line.
