Overview of Breast Cysts

Overview of Breast Cysts

Brief description of breast cysts. Mammary cyst is a common gynecological disease in recent years. Mammary cyst is also called milk stasis. It is caused by the poor discharge of milk from one lobe of the gland during lactation, resulting in the accumulation of milk in the breast. In clinical medicine, it manifests as a lump in the breast, which is often misdiagnosed as a breast tumor. The following is a brief introduction to breast cysts. Listen to the detailed introduction by the experts of Wuhan Modern Urban Women's Abortion Hospital.

1. What is breast cyst?

Mammary cysts, also known as milk stasis, are caused by the poor discharge of milk from one lobe of the gland during lactation, resulting in the accumulation of milk in the breast. Clinically, it manifests as a lump in the breast, which is often misdiagnosed as a breast tumor.

1. Pathology of the disease

Clinically, it is more common that the breast structure is poor, inflammation, and tumor compression causes the epithelial cells of the breast lobe or lobule tube to fall off or other substances block the tube, which hinders the discharge of milk and causes it to stagnate in the tube, causing the tube to expand and form cysts. The cysts can be secondary infected and cause acute mastitis or breast cysts.

If there is no secondary infection, it can last for a long time. The contents of the cyst will become thicker, and the water in the cyst will be digested and absorbed over time, making the cyst hard. The cyst wall is composed of stratified fibrous tissue, lined with a very thin squamous epithelial layer, which even falls off in some places. The cyst is filled with dark red amorphous structural material and foam-like cells that absorb milk. In the interstitial space around the cyst, there are numerous infiltrations of mononuclear cells, squamous-like cells, multinucleated giant cells, reticulocytes and plasma cells. Enlarged tubes and lactating gland lobule tissue can also be seen.

2. Clinical symptoms and diagnosis

The initial symptom is usually a breast lump, which is more common on one side and is located near the breast outside the nipple.

Round or oval, with clear boundaries, smooth surface, slightly movable, slightly painful to touch, usually 2-3 cm in diameter, generally without axillary lymphadenopathy, young women may find a lump with clear boundaries in the breast during or after breastfeeding, and have a history of mastitis during breastfeeding.

If a lump with clear boundaries, mobility and smooth surface is found at the edge of the nipple canal, the possibility of milk cyst should be considered, which can be diagnosed by B-ultrasound examination. Care should be taken to distinguish it from mammary cysts, mammary adenofibroma and breast cancer.

3. This disease belongs to benign breast disease

Once discovered, surgical removal should be considered. Surgery only requires simple removal of the tumor. For example, during breastfeeding, if there is a secondary infection, the infection should be controlled and the milk should be isolated, and then the tumor should be removed and sent for pathological examination.

2. Several types of breast pain

Being a woman is "pretty good", but many women often experience breast pain. After summary, women mainly have six types of breast pain.

1. Breast pain during puberty: It usually occurs between the ages of 9 and 13. After the girl's menarche, the swelling and pain will subside on its own. Related to female hormones. 2. Breast pain in the early stages of menstruation: Many women experience breast swelling, hardening, and tenderness before their menarche. In severe cases, the breasts will become painful and uncomfortable when slightly vibrated or impacted. This is because the body's estrogen level increases before menstruation, causing breast hyperplasia and edema of breast tissue. After menarche, the shift may resolve. 3. Breast pain during intercourse: This is related to the physiological changes in the breasts during sexual intercourse.
