How many medical and health institutions are there in the country?

The Bulletin shows that at the end of 2020, the total number of medical and health institutions in China reached 1,022,922, an increase of 15,377 over the previous year. Among them, there were 35,394 hospitals, 970,036 primary medical and health institutions, and 14,492 professional public health institutions. Compared with the previous year, there were 1,040 more hospitals and 15,646 more primary medical and health institutions.

Among the hospitals, there are 11,870 public hospitals and 23,524 private hospitals. Hospitals are divided by grade: 2,996 tertiary hospitals (including 1,580 tertiary grade A hospitals), 10,404 secondary hospitals, 12,252 primary hospitals, and 9,742 unclassified hospitals.
