Traditional Chinese Medicine for “Sub-healthy People”

Traditional Chinese Medicine for “Sub-healthy People”

Whether young or old, "health" has become one of the most talked about topics among people.

What exactly is "health"? It refers to a person being in good physical, mental and social condition. "Health" includes two aspects: one is that the major organs are free of disease, the body shape is well developed, the body shape is even, the various systems of the human body have good physiological functions, and there is strong physical activity and labor capacity, which are the most basic requirements for health; the other is strong resistance to disease, and the ability to adapt to environmental changes, various physiological stimuli and the effects of pathogenic factors on the body.

However, as people's pace of life and work accelerates and competition becomes increasingly fierce, there are not many healthy people who meet the above definition. Many people often feel exhausted, have difficulty concentrating, have reduced work efficiency, and have frequent discomfort in the lumbar and cervical vertebrae, but they cannot find any disease. In fact, these are all manifestations of "sub-health".

The "Sub-health TCM Clinical Guidelines" issued by the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine states that "sub-health" refers to a state in which the human body is between health and disease. People in a sub-healthy state cannot meet the standard of health, and show symptoms of reduced vitality, reduced function and adaptability over a certain period of time, but do not meet the clinical or sub-clinical diagnostic standards of modern medicine for related diseases. According to data from the World Health Organization, about 75% of people in the world are in a sub-healthy state.

How to improve the sub-health state? According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, Dr. Ma believes that it is better to take care of the body before treating it. Health preservation is the premise and foundation for maintaining health. So, what is health preservation? In short, "nourishing" means maintenance, conditioning, nourishing, and nursing; "life" means life, survival, and growth; health preservation is to maintain life and protect life.

Regarding how to maintain health, President Ma combined modern medicine and put forward the following five suggestions:

Emotional Health Care People have changes in emotions such as joy, anger, worry, thought, sadness, fear, and shock, also known as the "seven emotions". Among them, anger, joy, thought, worry, and fear are the five emotions, which are closely related to the five internal organs.

The Neijing states that "anger hurts the liver, sadness overcomes anger", "joy hurts the heart, fear overcomes joy", "thinking hurts the spleen, anger overcomes thinking", "worry hurts the lungs, joy overcomes worry", "fear hurts the kidneys, thinking overcomes sadness". This view has been applied to health preservation by doctors of all generations. Emotional regulation plays a subtle role in preventing diseases, curing illnesses, and prolonging life.

Abnormal emotional activities can cause loss of control of emotions and lead to dysfunction of the nervous system, causing the disorder of yin and yang in the human body, resulting in a variety of diseases, premature aging, and even short life. Therefore, those who are good at health preservation should pay attention to regulating emotions.

Psychological health care is mainly about maintaining a good mental state to ensure the normal functioning of the body, so as to achieve the purpose of disease prevention, fitness, and longevity.

A reasonable and scientific diet should be an important part of health preservation in daily life. The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine states that "five grains are for nourishment, five fruits are for assistance, five animals are for benefit, and five vegetables are for filling. Take them together with the right flavors to replenish your essence and energy."

Daily life and health care: Develop regular living habits.

Work and rest in moderation: walking for a long time will hurt the tendons, looking for a long time will hurt the blood, standing for a long time will hurt the bones, lying for a long time will hurt the qi, and sitting for a long time will hurt the flesh.

Scientific sleep: appropriate bedding, correct sleeping posture, regular bedtime, and adequate sleep.

Dress appropriately: be comfortable and fit, add or remove clothes as appropriate, choose clothes according to the time and the person, and wear shoes and hats that fit the body.

Both bowel movements are smooth.

Exercise for health is a method of health preservation that uses exercise to move muscles and bones, regulate breathing, and calm the mind, thereby dredging the meridians, harmonizing the qi and blood of the internal organs, and achieving the goal of strengthening the body and prolonging life.

Do appropriate aerobic exercise, especially walking, which is beneficial for lowering blood pressure, weight and cholesterol.

What is the best way to walk? It is recommended to remember "three, five, seven". "Three" means walking 3 kilometers every day for more than 30 minutes; "five" means exercise at least 5 times a day; "seven" means you can't exercise at full capacity, 70% is enough.

What are the precautions when walking?

The appropriate frequency of walking is 3 to 5 days a week. If the fatigue does not continue into the next day, you can do it every day.

Pay attention to your exercise heart rate, you can refer to the formula: heart rate + age = 170. For example, for a 50-year-old, the exercise heart rate should be 120 beats per minute; for a 70-year-old, the exercise heart rate should be 100 beats per minute.

The best time to take a walk is 45 minutes after dinner, when the calorie consumption is the greatest and the weight loss and fat reduction effect is the best. Try to avoid early morning and late night to avoid disrupting the body's rhythm.
