Lavender planting time

1. Lavender should be sown in spring. If it is a warm area, you can choose March to June or September to November. In cold areas, it should be sown from April to June. If you can maintain a greenhouse, you can sow it all year round.

2. Morphological characteristics of lavender. Lavender is a semi-shrub or dwarf shrub, branched, and covered with star-shaped hairs, which are denser in young and tender parts; old branches are gray-brown or dark brown, and the cortex peels off in strips, with long flower branches and short renewal branches. The leaves are linear or lanceolate-linear. The leaves on the flower branches are larger, sparse, 3-5 cm long, 0.3-0.5 cm wide, and covered with dense or sparse gray star-shaped hairs. When dry, they are gray-white or olive green. The leaves on the renewal branches are small, clustered, no more than 1.7 cm long, about 0.2 cm wide, densely covered with gray-white star-shaped hairs, and gray-white when dry. They are all obtuse at the apex, gradually narrowed at the base to a very short petiole, entire, with the edge rolled outward, the midrib raised below, and the lateral veins and reticulate veins are not obvious.

How to grow lavender

1. Light: Lavender grows best in an environment with sufficient light, and the daily light time should not be less than 6 hours. If it is too dark, the plant will be stunted and will also affect the flowering of the plant. If the bedroom has good lighting, you can place it near the window, otherwise you need to move it to the balcony to bask in the sun during the day.

2. Soil: Lavender prefers loose and fertile soil. If the acidity or alkalinity is too strong, it is not conducive to the growth of roots. Generally, it is necessary to mix garden soil, peat soil and river sand. The proportion of river sand should not be too large, mainly to increase the drainage effect. In addition, you can also add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer to the soil to provide nutrients for plant growth.

3. Watering: Lavender itself has good drought tolerance and does not require much water, so there is no need to water it too much. Too much water is not only unhelpful to growth, but also affects the breathing of the roots. Generally, water it after the soil is dry, and water it thoroughly each time. Water less in winter.

4. Fertilization: Lavender needs proper fertilization during its growth. Generally, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied in the seedling stage to promote the growth of branches and leaves. Before flowering, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be changed to promote flowering. After flowering, some compound fertilizer should be added to help the plant recover quickly.

How to Fertilize Lavender

1. Fertilization time

First of all, when changing the soil regularly, preferably once a year or two, you can add base fertilizer. In addition, during the growth stage, the growth is more vigorous and the amount of fertilizer required is relatively large.

2. Fertilizer Types

When choosing base fertilizer, mainly use some organic fertilizer, which needs to be decomposed fertilizer, not raw fertilizer. For topdressing, you can use liquid fertilizer or granular compound fertilizer, which can be bought directly from the flower shop. If there is a special fertilizer for flowers, it is also more suitable.

3. Fertilization method

1. Prepare the base fertilizer and substrate first, then mix them, fill them into the flowerpot, and plant the plants. If you choose liquid fertilizer, you need to add a lot of water and then apply it, don't apply concentrated fertilizer; if you choose granular fertilizer, you need to dig a hole in the substrate and put it in, it will slowly work.

2. You don’t need to apply top dressing too often. Once or twice a month is enough to basically meet its requirements.

IV. Precautions

Before the flowering period, you can apply a certain amount of fertilizer to promote its flowering. However, when it is in the flowering period, you don’t need to apply fertilizer. Moreover, when it is in the dormant period, you have to stop applying fertilizer.
