Qingbitang Science Popularization: Is it conjunctivitis if children blink frequently? No, it may be rhinitis!

Many children often twitch their noses, rub their eyes, and especially blink frequently. Parents always think that their children have itchy eyes and conjunctivitis. But when they go to the hospital, they find that it turns out that their children have rhinitis!

Statistics show that about 20%-30% of people in the world suffer from allergic rhinitis, which has become one of the main allergic diseases in children. Among children in my country, the incidence of allergic rhinitis is about 15.79%, and this proportion is still increasing year by year.

During infancy, children often twitch their noses, rub their eyes, cough, and other actions to show that their nasal cavity is uncomfortable because they cannot express themselves clearly. When children have such symptoms, parents must be vigilant! Of course, in addition to these, children of every age group will have different manifestations when they have rhinitis!

Rhinitis has different symptoms at different ages!

1. Symptoms of rhinitis in children aged 0-3 years

The main symptom is nasal congestion, but since the child cannot open his mouth to speak and express his discomfort, the child expresses it by snoring, rubbing his nose and eyes. In severe cases, feeding difficulties may occur.

2. Symptoms of rhinitis in children aged 3-7

The symptoms of allergic rhinitis in children aged 3-7 are also mainly nasal congestion, but at this time, rhinitis will affect the child's throat, causing the child's throat discomfort and coughing, which often makes parents mistake it for a cold. At this time, parents can also judge whether the child has allergic rhinitis based on whether the child has "allergic dark circles".

3. Specific symptoms of allergic rhinitis in children over 7 years old

The main symptom is runny nose, which is easily distinguished from runny nose during a cold. During a cold, runny nose develops from clear nasal discharge to thick yellow-white nasal discharge, but this does not happen in patients with allergic rhinitis.

4. Symptoms of allergic rhinitis in adolescents and adults

Symptoms such as nasal itching, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, dizziness and headache often occur. You often sneeze more than a dozen times in a row, and often have clear nasal discharge. Along with sneezing, a large amount of nasal discharge will pour down. If rhinitis attacks seriously, you may even experience symptoms such as itchy eyes and tinnitus!
