Pregnant woman sees blood when going to the toilet

Within 24-48 hours before delivery, the cervix begins to move, causing the fetal membrane around the cervix to separate from the endometrium at that point. The capillaries rupture and a small amount of blood is discharged through the vagina and mixed with the mucus in the cervical canal and discharged. This strong mucus discharged from the vagina is the "red spotting" of pregnancy. Seeing blood during pregnancy is usually a signal of labor.

The colors of pregnancy spotting may include dark brown, light pink, and bright red. The bleeding is significantly less than menstrual bleeding. It usually occurs 24 hours before the pain and is discharged as mixed mucus with a thick texture, but the specific situation varies from person to person.

If there is only a small amount of bleeding, the pregnant mother can stay at home for observation, and usually pay attention not to work too hard and avoid excessive exercise. However, if blood is discharged and the bleeding exceeds the menstrual period, or is accompanied by abdominal pain, you need to seek medical attention immediately.

Pregnancy and bleeding

Spotting during pregnancy is actually a small amount of bleeding in the vagina. Spotting during pregnancy should be distinguished according to the different time of spotting during pregnancy. The causes of bleeding in different stages are different. In addition to physiological factors, the causes of bleeding during pregnancy are mostly physiological factors:

1. If you see spotting in early pregnancy, you should consider the risk of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. The bleeding may be pink, bright red, or dark brown in color. About 1/4 of pregnant women will experience varying degrees of spotting in the early stages of pregnancy, and about half of them will end up with miscarriage.

2. Spotting during the second trimester of pregnancy. There are many reasons why pregnant women have a small amount of vaginal bleeding, such as physiological bleeding, excessive fatigue of pregnant women, and too much work pressure can all lead to bleeding. If bleeding is accompanied by abdominal pain, you need to pay attention because there is a possibility of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. If you experience spotting during the second trimester of pregnancy, you may be experiencing threatened abortion or placenta previa, and you need to go to the hospital for a check-up immediately.

3. Spotting in late pregnancy. Generally speaking, spotting in late pregnancy is a sign of impending labor. But if bleeding occurs early, it could also be a sign of premature birth.

What should I do if I see blood before giving birth?

Due to uterine contractions, the baby's head begins to fall into the pelvis, and the fetal membrane and endometrium gradually separate and the friction will cause blood vessels to rupture and bleed, which is commonly known as "pregnancy spotting". It is usually a light pink or dark brown thick liquid, or there may be blood in the secretions. Generally, spotting during pregnancy occurs 24 hours before the pain, but it can also occur a few days before or even a week before delivery.

Many pregnant women think that they will feel immediate pain when they see blood during pregnancy, which makes them nervous and focuses all their attention on this, causing insomnia. Insomnia leads to physical fatigue and reduced energy. In fact, this is very bad for pregnant women during childbirth. Maintain a good mood, be positive and patient, eat normally, ensure good sleep, and maintain energy.
