How to make cactus bloom? When does cactus bloom?

Cactus is a special plant with thorns but no leaves. It is very drought-resistant and can survive for a long time without watering. Cactus can actually bloom, but not as easily as other plants. On the one hand, it depends on the variety, and on the other hand, it also has something to do with maintenance habits.

How to make a cactus bloom

There are many varieties of cacti, and different varieties bloom at different times. Generally, ordinary cacti do not bloom because of problems with soil, temperature, sunlight, watering, and fertilizer. Cacti are suitable for growing in places with sufficient sunlight and ultraviolet light, and it is best to grow them outdoors.

If the temperature is high in summer, you can move it to a cooler and better ventilated place. It is fine to keep it above 5 degrees in winter. The potting soil should be fertile and loose. It is best to add some leaf mold and river sand to increase ventilation and drainage, which is conducive to the growth of its root system. In short, it needs more sun exposure. If you water it too much, the cactus is drought-resistant, so you need to put it in a well-ventilated place to dry.

Cactus is relatively tolerant of poor conditions, but if it lacks fertilizer, it may not bloom. Fertilize about once every 10 days. When fertilizing, do not apply it on the plant. Apply it in the flowerpot and then water it. We can use household compound fertilizer or concentrated liquid fertilizer for fertilization.

When does the cactus bloom?

It usually takes 2-3 years for a cactus to bloom, but this also depends on the climate, environment or planting conditions, and different cactus species. For example, the red flower jade is easy to bloom, but the golden cactus is said to bloom only once every 10 to 20 years.

The flowering time of cactus is mostly concentrated in March to May, but there are not many varieties that bloom in autumn, but there are many varieties in spring. Some Christmas cacti, fairy fingers, phoenix wing peacocks, jade old man, white star, white amber, snow moon flower, etc. may also bloom in winter. The shortest flowering time is a few hours, and the longest is 2~3 days!

Of course, it depends on the species. For example, there are Guanyin Palm, Fire Palm, Immortal Palm, etc., all of which belong to the Cactaceae family. There are also Euphorbia obesa, Epiphyllum, Starflower, and Golden Bark are actually cacti. Then the kind of cactus we usually raise, the fan-shaped cactus, is also the most common. Just break off a leaf and cut it, it will grow roots and survive, and bloom light yellow flowers.

Light

Most cactus plants need a sunny environment, and some of them can even adapt to strong sunlight, such as Opuntia, Strong Thorn and Tianlun column; there are also some species that need to be protected from exposure to the sun in the hot summer, such as Mammillaria and Polygonum. Regardless of the species, when the sun is strong in the summer afternoon, it is best to place it in a semi-shaded place for shade, but in winter, the plant can be allowed to absorb as much sunlight as possible.

temperature

Cactus likes a warm environment, so place it indoors on cold winter days and keep the temperature above 10 degrees, and above 5 degrees at night, otherwise it will easily rot.

Moisture

Don’t water unless the soil is dry, and if you do, water thoroughly.

Only in summer, when the cactus plant is still in the growth stage and in a high temperature environment, it needs a certain amount of water, and the amount of water must be sufficient. Morning and evening are the best times for watering, while being careful to avoid pouring water into the sphere to avoid leaving spots.
