Why do the leaves of forsythia curl? Can the branches of forsythia survive?

Winter jasmine is one of the most common flowers in China. It is strong and easy to survive. It is planted in many places. Sometimes you can find that the leaves of winter jasmine are curled. Why is this? Can you use the branches of winter jasmine alone to plant soil?

Why do the leaves of winter jasmine curl?

The curling of forsythia leaves is a common problem that often occurs during the growth and development process. There are generally four possible reasons.

First, excessive soil moisture causes root diseases. Due to long-term water accumulation in the planting area, the roots are corroded by inorganic acids or salts and alkalis, and infected with pathogens, which causes the root system of the forsythia to have dysfunctional water and nutrient absorption, and the absorption of water and nutrients is seriously affected, resulting in poor growth. Therefore, the leaves curl.

Second, the soil lacks calcium fertilizer, which causes the leaves to curl. The lack of calcium fertilizer in the winter jasmine causes the new roots, terminal buds, leaves, etc. to grow poorly, and different symptoms appear, ranging from wilting, deformation, twisting, weak drooping branches to necrosis.

Third, the biological reaction caused by long-term growth in a cool environment and occasional sunlight. Winter jasmine likes to grow in a cool environment and is rarely stimulated by high temperature and strong light. When stimulated by strong sunlight and high temperature, the organism of winter jasmine produces a biological reaction, forming the phenomenon of leaf curling. When winter jasmine has been tested by strong light and high temperature, it has become accustomed to it and has no special reaction, and it will naturally return to normal.

Fourth, silk-spinning pests cause the leaves to curl. Some pests hide on the back of the leaves and spin silk to curl the leaves, making them a place to live and lay eggs.

Can the branches of forsythia survive by transplanting?

It is recommended to do it in spring, and the cut branches are better with dark color, and green branches are not easy to grow.

If you want to grow a single plant from a branch, you need to bury it in a deep pot to promote rooting, root it vertically, or use high-pressure rooting or ring-barking rooting method. After rooting, fill it with soil and pot it.

The best soil for growing jasmine is loose, fertile and well-drained sandy soil. You can also use honeycomb coal slag, humus soil, garden soil and other proportions. Jasmine grows vigorously in acidic soil and grows poorly in alkaline soil.

How to better grow winter jasmine

1. Temperature:

Before it blooms, which is basically around the Spring Festival, the winter jasmine should be moved indoors and the temperature should be kept at least between 15 and 20 degrees.

2. Soil:

The soil must be loose, breathable and nutritious. After all, forsythia likes acidic soil, so the soil for forsythia must be kept acidic. You can also use ferrous sulfate to adjust the pH of the soil and make the soil acidic.

3. Moisture:

Forsythia prefers water. You can increase the amount of watering during the flowering period and keep the soil moist. You still need to control the water after autumn and early winter because it needs to survive the winter safely.

4. Pruning:

Forsythia still needs to be pruned, because it is necessary to maintain a beautiful plant shape, so appropriate pruning is still necessary, just leaving new buds.
