What are the consequences of not changing the car's spark plugs? What causes the spark plugs to turn yellow?

Spark plugs are important parts for the normal ignition and starting of cars. They can ignite vaporized gasoline and provide energy for the engine. Therefore, spark plugs are very important. If they are damaged, they should be replaced in time. If they are not damaged, they should also be replaced when the maintenance period is up. So what are the disadvantages of not replacing spark plugs?

What are the consequences of not changing the car's spark plugs?

Fuel consumption

The function of the spark plug is to ignite the mixed gas in the cylinder to provide power. If the spark plug has poor performance, the ignition energy may be very weak and cannot meet the fuel requirements required for ignition, so the fuel is discharged into the pipeline and wasted, and the engine will lose power due to the waste of ignition cycles.

Damage to the three-way catalytic converter

If the performance of the spark plug is not good enough and the gasoline often fails to ignite, the gasoline will be damaged when it enters the exhaust system's three-way catalytic converter. The three-way catalytic converter is hot and can easily burn out!

Damage to engine rubber

If the spark plug is not replaced, it will be difficult for it to ignite the mixture normally, which can easily cause the engine to shake. When we want to climb a hill or accelerate, the engine will shake severely, which will put a lot of load on the engine rubber.

What causes the spark plug to turn yellow?

It is normal for the spark plug to turn yellow.

After a period of use, the color of the brand new spark plug will slowly change. At this time, remove it and observe the color of the spark plug, because different colors indicate different engine conditions.

If the engine is working normally, the color of the spark plug that has been used for a period of time should be rusty, and it may look yellow, and the first two or three turns of the thread will be black. This means that there is no problem with every part of the engine.

If the spark plug is white, it means the temperature of the combustion chamber is too high. There may be too much carbon deposits in the engine or a problem with the cooling system. If the spark plug is black, it may be caused by too rich oil-air mixture.

The spark plugs are wet with oil, so you need to remove all four and observe them together. If only one or two are wet, it may be that the seal of the spark plug hole is aging. If all four are wet, it may be that the oil has flowed into the cylinder, commonly known as burning oil, or it may be caused by a dirty air filter.

Do I need to replace the spark plug after cleaning it?

It depends on what kind of spark plug it is. If it is a nickel-copper alloy, just replace it directly. It is very cheap. Platinum, platinum-iridium and other thin electrodes can be cleaned and reused. They are relatively expensive. If the gap is large, just adjust it. You can keep cleaning and using it.

If you feel that the car is shaking violently, or the fuel consumption is abnormal, or there is black smoke, etc., you think there is a problem with the spark plug. You can remove it and check to see if there are a lot of black impurities attached to it. If there is no burn-in or the like, you can clean it and use it again.

Spark plug cleaning method:

Find a glass and put the spark plug in it. Add some white vinegar to cover the spark plug. Soak it for 2 to 5 hours, then take it out and use an unused hard toothbrush to brush off the carbon deposits. Wash and dry it and leave it for about an hour until there is no moisture. It can basically be used like a new one.
