At what point should the car spark plug be replaced? Is it okay to replace the car spark plug?

If a car engine wants to work properly, spark plugs are absolutely indispensable. The role of spark plugs can be said to be to provide a source of fire for gasoline combustion. Therefore, spark plugs must be replaced regularly to ensure oil and gas. So how long is the service life of car spark plugs?

How long should the car spark plug be replaced?

There is actually no uniform standard for the replacement interval of spark plugs, because different types of spark plugs have very different replacement intervals when used on different cars.

The spark plugs we use currently include three categories: ordinary copper-nickel alloy spark plugs, platinum spark plugs, and iridium spark plugs. Copper core spark plugs have the shortest service life and need to be replaced after 20,000 to 30,000 kilometers. The service life of copper-nickel alloy spark plugs is relatively short, about 40,000 to 60,000 kilometers.

The platinum spark plug electrode material is better, so the service life is longer, which can reach more than 60,000 to 80,000 kilometers.

Iridium spark plug electrode material has better high temperature resistance, so it has the longest service life, which can reach more than 100,000 kilometers.

Since the engine of a hybrid car is not always working, it can only be replaced after traveling more than 160,000 kilometers.

Can I change the car spark plug?

It is recommended that you replace the entire set.

Because for our multi-cylinder engines, this ensures that the ignition energy of each cylinder is normal and the ignition gap is even, which will be better for the smooth operation of our engine.

Of course, if only one spark plug on our car is broken, we can replace it individually, but it is better to make a balanced adjustment to the ignition gap of the four spark plugs.

For our current family cars, multi-cylinder engines are almost all four-cylinder or more. Of course, small-displacement three-cylinder engines are also becoming popular recently.

Therefore, in our multi-cylinder engine, if the ignition gaps of several spark plugs are not uniform, it will have a certain impact on the smooth operation of our engine.

So when we encounter the problem that the engine moves more frequently and runs unsteadily during use of the car, it may also be related to the spark plugs.

How to clean carbon deposits on car spark plugs

Under normal circumstances, spark plugs will not have a large amount of carbon deposits. Only engines with severe oil burning will have more carbon deposits. If there is serious carbon deposits around the spark plug electrode, you can use a small screwdriver to clean it, and then clean it with a carburetor cleaner. As long as there is no carbon deposit around the center electrode, it will not affect the work of the spark plug.
