What does car bottoming mean? What are the effects of a car chassis being knocked?

The chassis heights of different models are different. For example, the chassis of SUVs and off-road vehicles are higher, while the chassis of some sports cars are very low. If you drive on an uneven road, especially one with rocks, it is easy to get stuck on the chassis. This is often called bottoming out.

What does car bottoming mean?

The so-called car bottoming out, in layman's terms, is the chassis hanging. Because the chassis is invisible to us while driving, once the bottoming out occurs, we are very nervous and cannot accurately judge what is going on.

Minor scrapes are also called "bottoming out", while severe scrapes and collisions with multiple wheels or a single wheel off the ground are typical "bottoming out". Bottoming out will generally damage the chassis and frame, so it is recommended not to drive on bumpy roads.

What are the effects of a car chassis knock?

Generally speaking, the parts of the chassis that are most likely to be damaged are the radiator rack, engine oil pan, transmission oil pan, brake oil pipe, exhaust pipe, etc.

Once the bottoming occurs, the first thing to do is to stop the car and observe whether there is any oil leakage. If there is oil leakage, then you must not drive it again. Or if it is hung on the suspension system and there is deformation or damage, then you must not drive it again.

Of course, these are not so easy to judge. What we can do is to bend down and observe whether there are leaking oil stains on the ground. If there is no oil leakage and there is no jammer in front, you can continue to drive away, then drive slowly for a while to feel whether the braking system is normal, whether the direction is biased, whether the turning is normal, whether there is any abnormal noise when the car accelerates, etc. If you find that there are no problems, you can drive slowly and normally. Otherwise, you have to drive it for maintenance or wait for a tow truck depending on the situation.

What should I pay attention to when repairing a scratched car chassis?

There is nothing wrong with the three-way catalytic converter and the soundproof board. Be careful when installing the beam, because the beam is directly connected to the car body. If only the beam is deformed, it is not a big problem. If the car body is also deformed, it needs to be corrected. This must be repaired with a car body correction instrument. Generally, small repair shops do not have this equipment or technical strength. Car body deformation may cause inaccurate four-wheel alignment and uneven tire wear, so pay attention to this.
