How was Huashan formed?

According to scientific research, about 3 billion years ago, the Huashan area was a vast ocean. About 2.5 billion years ago, the seabed vibrated and magma erupted in the continuous movement of the earth's crust, forming a volcanic sedimentary rock layer about 5,000 meters thick. About 300 million years ago, the land here continued to grow and the sea area continued to shrink. Under the strong crustal movement and compression, the fault tectonic movement caused the crust to rise continuously. After the Cretaceous period, the Huashan rock mass began to rise, and the large fault at the northern foot of Huashan began to sink relatively. After a long period of crustal movement and river erosion, wind and rain scouring and other natural effects, the current appearance of Huashan, which stands tall and straight, was formed about 2 to 3 million years ago.

Due to the influence of internal and external stresses, Huashan's landforms present peculiar granite mountains, peaks, ridges, canyons, terraces and other landforms. The natural combination of various landforms has formed a natural scene with staggered and undulating terrain, alternating ridges and cliffs, towering strange rocks, and steep and dangerous terrain. The five main peaks and the auxiliary peaks on the side have steep cliffs, as if cut by a knife or an axe, straight up and down.

How was the Canglong Ridge of Mount Huashan named?

The Canglong Ridge of Huashan is named Canglong Ridge because of its dark black exterior and its terrain that resembles a hanging dragon.

Canglong Ridge is one of the famous dangerous roads in Huashan. It is located at the south of Jiukutai and Wuyun Peak. It is named because the ridge is dark blue and looks like a swimming dragon. The terrain is like walking on a thin blade and the cliffs are thousands of feet high, which makes many tourists tremble with fear. The most famous story is the story of Han Yu crying and writing a letter for help, which has triggered a lot of related allusions and textual research. Therefore, the cultural heritage of "Han Tuizhi's Letter Writing Place" has been left here. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the ridge began to build steps, and it was completed in the Republic of China. A total of more than 530 steps were built. In modern times, in order to prevent congestion and protect the safety of tourists, a mountain climbing trail has been dug in Feiyu Ridge to the east of Canglong Ridge.
