What is the cause of snowdrop root rot? How to save snowdrop after root rot

Snowdrops are a common flower plant in life. They are widely used in life because of their effects of warming the kidney and promoting yang, dispersing wind and removing dampness. Some people even raise snowdrops at home. However, many people always suffer from root rot when raising snowdrops. So how to remedy the root rot of snowdrops? Let's take a look.

What is the cause of snowdrop root rot?

Overwatering

Excessive watering is the main cause of plant root rot. Some drought-tolerant plants are most afraid of waterlogging, which causes a lack of oxygen in their roots and causes root rot. In addition, in winter, some plants are dormant and transpiration is slow. If the amount of watering is not controlled in time, waterlogging and root rot are also likely to occur.

Poor water quality

Hydroponic plants have a high demand for water. If they have root rot, it is mostly due to poor water quality and a large number of microorganisms in the bottle, causing the plant roots to be infected and rot. In addition, microorganisms will compete with plants for oxygen, causing the plant roots to lack oxygen and rot.

Bacterial infection

Too many microorganisms in the potting soil can also cause plant root rot. So try to use cleaner water and fertilizer.

How to save snowdrops after root rot

Prune rotten roots

When the snowdrop has root rot, we must first remove it from the soil, then wash the soil around the roots with clean water, and then use sterilized scissors to clean all the rotten roots without any residue, otherwise it will easily cause the snowdrop to rot again. After cleaning the rotten roots, we must soak the roots of the snowdrop in a carbendazim solution for disinfection, and finally place them in a cool and ventilated environment to dry the wounds.

Replanting

After the wound on the root of the snowdrop has dried, we can replant it. It is best to replace the soil with new one when planting, because there are a large number of bacteria remaining in the previous soil. If you continue to use it, it will easily cause the roots to rot again. If there is really no new soil, then we need to thoroughly disinfect the previous soil before using it.

Post-maintenance

During the period just after potting, we need to control the frequency and amount of air watering, because the roots of the snowdrops have not fully recovered at this time, and their ability to absorb water is still very poor. If you water too much, it will easily lead to water accumulation, which will cause the snowdrops to rot again. So when the soil becomes dry, we can just use a spray bottle to wet the soil.

How to grow snowdrops

Snowdrops are mainly planted by division. After the above-ground part withers, the bulbs are dug up and divided. The commercial bulbs are divided into three sizes: 4-5 cm, 5-6 cm, and more than 6 cm in circumference. In order to increase the reproduction coefficient, the bulbs can be cut 6-8 times from the base to the top in early summer, disinfected with 0.1% mercuric chloride solution, and cultured on a 20℃ breeding bed. After 3 months, 1-2 small bulbs can be formed on each fragment.
