Can fuchsia be propagated by cuttings? How to propagate fuchsia by cuttings to achieve a high survival rate?

Fuchsia is a common flower plant in life. It is deeply loved by people because of its effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, cooling blood and removing wind. It is the first choice of many flower growers. So can Fuchsia be propagated by cuttings? How to propagate Fuchsia with a high survival rate by cuttings? Let's take a look at it together.

Can Fuchsia be propagated by cuttings?

Fuchsia is propagated by cuttings. Fuchsia likes warm winters, cool summers, and humid climates. It is afraid of strong sunlight, hot summers, and severe cold. The best temperature for growth and development is 15-25℃. It will grow poorly if it exceeds 30℃.

How to get a high survival rate of fuchsia cuttings

Fuchsia can be propagated by cuttings all year round, but the fastest rooting speed is in spring and autumn. It is best to choose the strong tender branches on the top of the plant. Cuttings with a length of 5-8 cm are inserted into the sand bed, shaded and kept moist, and the temperature compensation is 15-20℃. Generally, the cuttings will take root about 10 days after the cuttings, and can be potted in about a month. Once the cuttings take root, they must be potted in time, otherwise the tender roots will rot quickly in the sandy soil with high humidity and no nutrients.

Fuchsia cultivation method

1. Take cuttings from a healthy fuchsia plant. Choose a stem that has at least two pairs of leaves below its growth cone. Cut the stem just above the leaves, about one-third of the way from the top. The cuttings should be about 2 to 3 inches long.

2. Trim off excess leaves. Use a sharp knife to remove excess leaves sticking out from the leaf nodes, as well as the stems below the leaf nodes.

3. Soak the cuttings in a rooting agent. Add hormone powder to the cut surface of the stem. The rooting agent will promote root growth.

4. Fill the pot with potting mix. A well-drained and nutritious mix, such as compost and vermiculite, works well. Use a 3-inch pot for one cutting, or a 3-inch pot for three to four cuttings.

5. Place the cuttings in indirect sunlight. The cuttings need plenty of light to thrive, but not direct sunlight. The best effect is under a sunny window with transparent curtains.

6. Keep the soil moist. Use a spray bottle and use enough water to keep the surface of the growing medium moist, but don't soak it. If the plant sits in water, the stems may rot.

7. As they grow, transplant the fuchsias into a larger pot and then take care of them as normal.

When is the best time to take cuttings of fuchsia?

Fuchsia generally has the highest survival rate in spring and autumn, because the growth temperature of Fuchsia is between 15° and 25°. Spring is its peak growth season. If the temperature and light are suitable, it is easy to take root after cutting. When choosing Fuchsia, you should choose strong and relatively hard branches. You can keep two to three nodes on each branch, that is, two to three pairs of leaves.
