What to do with floaters after cataract surgery? Are floaters and vitreous opacities the same disease?

Cataract is an eye disease that can easily cause blindness. It is mainly caused by the opacity of the lens. It can be treated through surgery. Sometimes after cataract surgery, floaters are found again. What should I do in this case? Are floaters and vitreous opacities the same thing?

What to do about eye floaters after cataract surgery

Cataracts themselves, and cataract surgery, do not cause floaters. Therefore, it should not be said that floaters appeared after cataract surgery, but that floaters were discovered after cataract surgery.

Floaters are small vitreous opacities. When there is cataract, the cataract opacity may be heavier and cover the vitreous opacity. After cataract surgery, the lens is clear but the vitreous may not be clear. When the cataract is removed, these small opacities are exposed.

In addition, after the operation, patients will pay more attention to their eyes, compare them consciously, and discover some things that existed in the past but were not noticed.

Are floaters and vitreous opacities the same disease?

Floaters are a disease of vitreous degeneration, but they are not entirely caused by vitreous opacities. Therefore, there are certain differences between floaters and vitreous opacities.

Vitreous opacity refers to the presence of opaque bodies in the vitreous. It is not an independent eye disease, but one of the common clinical symptoms of ophthalmology. Floaters are harmless vitreous opacities, which are physiological and generally do not require treatment.

Other causes of vitreous opacities include degeneration, inflammation, hemorrhagic diseases, traumatic diseases, and systemic diseases. Common causes include stellate vitreous degeneration, scintillation vitreous liquefaction, uveitis, retinitis, toxoplasmosis, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, polymeric choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), ocular trauma, Terson syndrome, etc.

What foods are good for eye floaters?

Patients with floaters are advised to eat more foods rich in various vitamins. Vitamins can be very helpful to the eyes. They can enhance the immune resistance of the eyes and prevent further vision loss. Therefore, they should eat more animal liver, mushrooms, meat, fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, cod liver oil, carrots and other foods that are good for the eyes.

During the treatment period, you must pay attention to not eating spicy food, eat more light and digestible food, do eye exercises regularly, do not overuse your eyes, and pay attention to eye hygiene.
