Is presbyopia the same as cataract? How to relieve cataract and low vision?

Cataracts, like presbyopia, are common in the elderly and are related to the aging of the body. Both affect normal vision, but presbyopia and cataracts are different. So is there any way to alleviate the low vision caused by cataracts?

Is presbyopia the same as cataract?

Presbyopia and cataracts are different.

Presbyopia is a physiological phenomenon, that is, under normal circumstances, as we age, the ciliary muscle responsible for our ability to focus and the plasticity of the lens decrease after the age of 45, making it difficult or impossible to see close objects for a long time. Reading glasses are needed to compensate for this in order to obtain clear near vision. If there is hyperopia or hyperopic astigmatism, the age of presbyopia will be advanced, and it will have varying degrees of impact on far vision. Presbyopia can be corrected with glasses.

Cataract is an eye disease. It is caused by some reasons that make the transparent lens cloudy, blocking the light entering the eye to varying degrees, resulting in decreased vision. There are many causes of cataracts. Depending on the cause and the degree of visual impairment, you can flexibly choose whether and when to have surgery. If there are no other serious eye complications, most of the postoperative results are very good.

Presbyopia and cataracts are actually both problems with the lens. Presbyopia is a decrease in the elasticity of the lens, and cataracts are a decrease in the transparency of the lens. These two problems are related to age. As cataracts develop, the elasticity of the lens will inevitably decrease, which will also aggravate presbyopia.

How to relieve cataract and low vision

At present, there is no drug that can cure cataracts. Some commonly used drugs, such as Shapuaisi, can only slightly relieve the symptoms of cataracts, but cannot completely cure the disease. It can even be said that for cataracts in the middle stage or later, it is not only ineffective, but also harmful.

Any medicine or folk remedy that claims to be able to treat cataracts is basically a scam. The most effective way to treat cataracts is surgery (phacoemulsification + intraocular lens implantation).

Although some early cataracts may slow down and slightly improve vision after drug treatment, this is not the result of drug treatment. Since cataracts are a long process from early to mature, they may stop naturally at a certain stage of development without seriously affecting vision. This is a pathological law and has nothing to do with drugs. There is no drug that can reverse and reduce the opacity of the lens, let alone food.

How to prevent and treat cataracts

It is impossible and unrealistic to completely block and prevent the occurrence of cataracts.

Some measures can reduce the incidence of cataracts. For example, anti-ultraviolet coated sunglasses can prevent the eyes from being damaged by sunlight, and quitting smoking can not only reduce the harm to the body, but also play a certain role in preventing cataracts.

In addition, diabetic patients need to pay attention to controlling their blood sugar levels.

In addition, you can consume more foods rich in vitamin C, vitamin A and carotene, such as spinach, cabbage, etc., which can play a good preventive role.
