How to peel chestnuts more conveniently? Tips for peeling chestnuts

We all know that chestnuts are a common delicacy. There are many ways to eat them. They can be fried, stewed, boiled, etc. They are sweet and delicious, with high nutritional value. They are loved by people and many people eat chestnuts frequently. So how to peel chestnuts better? Let's take a closer look!

How to peel chestnuts better

Raw chestnut

First, if you have just bought raw chestnuts, you can clean them and then cut a cross on them. Or, there are tools for opening raw chestnuts sold online. These tools have two handles and are very useful. If you have such tools at home, it is also very good to be able to open the outer shell of the chestnut very efficiently.

Then put the chestnuts in the pot and add an appropriate amount of water to the pot. Make sure it is high enough to cover the chestnuts to ensure that the chestnuts are fully cooked.

Next, we need to boil the chestnuts for ten minutes. When the chestnuts are slightly cooked but not overcooked, we can take them out.

Then we put the chestnuts in cold water. When the chestnuts come into contact with cold water, they will expand due to heat and contract due to cold water. The skin will not be as hard and difficult to peel as before. It will be a little more crispy and easier to peel.

Then we can peel the chestnuts, using a chestnut opening tool or by hand. This is the method used to make chestnuts, and the peeling effect is better.

Sugar-roasted chestnuts

The second method is, if we buy sugar-roasted chestnuts, if we don’t finish them, they will become cold after a while, and the skin will not be as crispy as before, so sometimes when you peel such sugar-roasted chestnuts, they will get stuck. Therefore, this method of peeling sugar-roasted chestnuts is also very practical.

First, we need to sprinkle some warm water on the sugar-roasted chestnuts, because some of them have leaked out of the skin, so when heated in the microwave, they will lose water and the sugar-roasted chestnuts will be shriveled. Therefore, it is recommended that you add a little water to prevent the sugar-roasted chestnuts from being very dry after they are made. After heating for 30 seconds, you can take it out of the microwave. At this time, you can take out the sugar-roasted chestnuts and put them in the previous paper bag. Then you can use a rolling pin to beat them a few times. It is recommended that you be gentle to prevent the sugar-roasted chestnuts from breaking, so that you can eat sugar-roasted chestnuts that are easy to peel.

Common methods of peeling chestnuts

1. Salt water boiling method

① Wash the chestnuts after you buy them home, then use scissors to make a cross-shaped cut at the top. The cut should be deeper. I usually cut it at the top, but you can also cut it at other parts.

②Put chestnuts in the pot, pour in clean water to cover the chestnuts, sprinkle a spoonful of salt (salt can help soften the skin), bring to a boil over high heat and then cook over medium heat for 7 minutes.

③ Take it out and let it dry for a while, just enough to not get hot, but not completely cool. Squeeze it hard along the opening and then peel it open.

Because the chestnuts are boiled, the surface will be a little wet, which makes them very easy to peel. However, if you use too much force, the flesh will also fall off. When peeling, peel the outer shell and the inner membrane together, not layer by layer, because the chestnuts will cool down over time, and the inner membrane will completely adhere to the chestnut flesh.

2. Microwave oven method

① Wash the chestnuts and use scissors to make a cross-shaped cut on the top, making the cut deeper.

②After processing, put it on a plate and put it in the microwave on high heat for 2 minutes.

③Take it out and let it cool down until it is no longer hot, then peel it along the cut while it is still hot.

This method uses the high temperature of the microwave oven to evaporate the moisture in the chestnuts, so unlike the boiling method, the surface of the chestnuts is dry. When peeling, you will find that the shell is not as soft as the boiling method. However, the advantage of this is that there are almost no nail marks on the peeled chestnut meat, and it is very complete.

Both methods are relatively convenient for peeling chestnuts. You can choose according to your preference.

How to preserve chestnuts

The specific method is as follows:

Raw materials: sand, boxes (that's all)

Find an unused box and spread a layer of fine sand on the bottom of the box. The sand should not be too damp, just a little wet to the touch. Then put a layer of chestnuts on it, and then another layer of fine sand, just enough to cover the chestnuts, and then another layer of chestnuts.

After that, be sure to store the box in a cool, dry place so that it can be kept until next year. Few of them are damaged.

There are some key points here. For example, when choosing chestnuts, you must choose chestnuts that are not damaged, that is, chestnuts that are naturally cracked or artificially opened rather than knocked open. This way, the probability of successful preservation is greater!
