Does 4 fetal movements in 5 minutes count as one?

After 16 weeks of pregnancy, pregnant women can begin to feel the baby's movement. When the fetus moves in the expectant mother's uterus and collides with the endometrium, fetal movement occurs. Fetal movement is an important part of the expectant mother's monitoring of the fetus. Therefore, starting from the 28th week of pregnancy, the expectant mother needs to count the fetal movement every day to monitor the condition of the fetus. Many doctors say that if the baby moves every 5 minutes, it counts as one movement. So does that mean if the baby moves 4 times in 5 minutes, it counts as one movement?

Why does the baby's fetal movement count as one every 5 minutes?

The baby's fetal movement is always uncertain. The baby will sometimes kick once in the uterus, and sometimes it will move continuously for several times. If the baby's fetal movement is continuous, it will only be counted as one baby movement. Therefore, if the fetal movement is continuous, or the fetus has a series of fetal movements within 5 minutes, then it is just one time.

How to count fetal movements correctly

Method 1: Record the time required for 10 fetal movements

From the 28th week of pregnancy, pregnant mothers can test the baby's fetal movement (it is recommended to be after dinner, because the baby's fetal movement is more frequent at this time), lying on the left side, and record the time required for 10 fetal movements. If the time required for 10 fetal movements is less than 120 minutes, it means that the number of fetal movements is normal. If you do not feel the fetal movement or the time required for 10 fetal movements exceeds 2 hours, you should see a doctor as soon as possible for further examination.

Method 2: Calculate the number of fetal movements during a fixed period of time

Pregnant mothers should use one hour each in the morning, afternoon, and evening to measure the fetal movement of their baby, at least 3 times per hour. The number of fetal movements in 3 hours is multiplied by 4, and the result is no less than 30 times. If it is less than 10 times, you should see a doctor immediately.

It is not difficult to see that the frequency and speed of fetal movements are closely related to the well-being of the fetus. Therefore, pregnant women must pay attention to the fetal movements of their children. It is essential to count the fetal movements every day. Once there is any abnormality or no movement for a long time, you need to see a doctor immediately. When counting fetal movements, you also need to calm down and change your posture frequently.
