Why does amenorrhea occur? What causes it?

Amenorrhea refers to the absence of menstruation for three months or more after a woman's first menstruation. From puberty to menopause, menstruation accompanies women through half of their lives. However, if the menstruation that should come during this period is delayed again and again, or even does not come for many months, how can it be amenorrhea?

1. Psychological stimulation

It is a common cause of menstrual disorders and even amenorrhea in women. It is mainly due to changes in mentality, such as work pressure in daily life, depression, stress, anxiety, severe mental stimulation, etc., through the neuroendocrine pathway of the cerebral cortex-midbrain-hypothalamus-pituitary, or through the brain-limbic system affecting the hypothalamus-pituitary function, resulting in abnormal secretion of gonadotropin released by the hypothalamus-pituitary, thus causing menstrual disorders and even amenorrhea.

2. Gynecological diseases

Tuberculous endometritis, uterine and ovarian dysplasia, uterine and ovarian insensitivity syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome and ovarian aging, etc.

3. Emergency contraception

Long-term use of emergency contraception can immediately inhibit the production of estrogen in women's bodies, which is one of the more common reasons why women do not have menstruation.

4. Lack of nutrients

In particular, the lack of protein and vitamins can reduce the function of endocrine glands, and the pituitary gland can easily inhibit the production and metabolism of gonadotropin. It also reduces the response of target organs to growth hormone, resulting in amenorrhea. The main reason is improper diet, such as blindly following the trend of losing weight, which leads to insufficient intake of protein, long-chain fatty acids and vitamins in food.

5. Other symptoms

It mainly includes active hepatitis, such as moderate to severe pulmonary tuberculosis, severe anemia, malnutrition, etc., unique endocrine diseases, such as "obesity reproductive impotence malnutrition", etc.; the influence of some endocrine system disorders in the body, such as adrenaline, pancreas and other nerve dysfunctions.
