What to eat in the last month of pregnancy

Pregnant friends are usually close to the time of delivery in the last month of pregnancy. Because of the different physical reactions of pregnant women before delivery and even the time of delivery, these will cause great pressure on the physical aspects of pregnant friends, and they need to be taken care of. So what food should be eaten in the last month of pregnancy?

What to eat during the last month of pregnancy

Due to the needs of the final growth and development of the fetus, during this period, the nutrition of pregnant women should be rich in calcium, phosphorus, iron, iodine, protein, and various nutrients. They should eat small meals and eat light nutrition.

1. Appropriately increase the intake of fish, poultry, eggs, lean meat and seafood: Fish, poultry, eggs and lean meat are good sources of protein. Freshwater fish, in addition to providing protein, can also provide n-3 polyunsaturated fats (such as docosahexaenoic acid, DHA), which is extremely important for the functional development of the fetal brain and macula after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

2. Appropriately increase the intake of dairy products: Milk or dairy products contain protein, and are also a good source of calcium.

The need for calcium in late pregnancy continues to increase: the fetus needs to accumulate about 110 mg of calcium every day. Studies have confirmed that women who eat a traditional Chinese diet (without milk) during pregnancy have a 16% lower normal bone density after giving birth than non-pregnant women of the same age. In addition, low calcium intake during pregnancy will also increase the risk of preeclampsia in late pregnancy.

3. Eat less irritating foods: Try to reduce the intake of strong tea and freshly ground coffee, and try to avoid irritating foods.

Common questions about diet in the last month of pregnancy

1. Reduce the intake of regular meals. In the northern region, pasta is the main food, and excessive intake of pasta will always increase the weight of newborns and make babies fat. Therefore, in the last month, pregnant women can eat until they are 70% to 80% full for each meal. They can eat more whole grains such as millet soup and corn porridge for dinner. These foods are rich in vitamin B1, which is an essential trace element for pregnant women.

2. Supplement more protein. In order to store the energy consumed by pregnant women during childbirth, pregnant women should eat more foods high in energy such as protein and glycogen in the last month. Foods rich in protein mainly include animal protein such as chicken, fish, shrimp, pork, etc. Dairy products and bean products are also rich in protein. You can eat more fruits and vegetables containing glycogen, but not too much. Excessive intake of glycogen can easily lead to pregnancy-induced hypertension.

3. Eat more vegetables. Pregnant women are very prone to constipation and hemorrhoids in the late pregnancy, both of which can cause premature birth, so pregnant women should eat more vegetables in the last month to prevent constipation and hemorrhoids. In addition, vegetables and fruits are rich in vitamins and nutrients, which are very beneficial to the body of expectant mothers.

4. Stop taking calcium tablets for pregnant women. Calcium supplementation during pregnancy is to make the baby grow better, but you have to pay attention to the time of calcium and zinc supplementation. Generally speaking, the best time to supplement calcium and zinc is in the second trimester of pregnancy. Generally, there is no need to supplement calcium and zinc in the late pregnancy. However, many pregnant women have been taking calcium tablets for pregnancy, thinking that the more the better. In fact, this is not the case. Calcium tablets for pregnancy should be stopped at the latest at 33 weeks of pregnancy. Taking too many calcium tablets for pregnancy in the late pregnancy will make the fetus's bones harder and affect the smooth delivery of the pregnant woman. In addition, excessive calcium and zinc supplementation will also cause placental aging. Drinking 200ml of dairy products every day can be considered necessary.
