Uterine fibroids larger than 5 cm

Uterine fibroids larger than 5 cm

In recent years, the age of women suffering from uterine fibroids is getting younger and younger, and many women are troubled by uterine fibroids. During the medical treatment process, some doctors will tell patients that uterine fibroids smaller than 5cm do not need to be treated. Is this really possible? Do uterine fibroids larger than 5cm require surgery?

Uterine fibroids of 5 cm are not necessarily suitable for surgical treatment. It depends on whether there are accompanying symptoms. If accompanied by significant changes in menstruation, such as a continuous increase in menstrual volume, a significant decrease in cycle time, or even reaching the level of anemia, this situation will affect daily life and work. At this time, a 5cm uterine fibroid requires surgical treatment. Some patients also experience symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, back pain, frequent urination and urgency. When accompanied by active symptoms, a 5cm uterine fibroid requires surgical treatment. If you find a 5cm uterine fibroid, but you have no symptoms, no lower abdominal pain, back pain, no changes in menstruation, etc., you can temporarily use B-ultrasound to check, and return for a B-ultrasound in half a year to see if the uterine fibroid has grown rapidly. If it remains at 5cm and there is basically no change, then surgery is not necessary.

It was said before that small uterine fibroids should not be treated because doctors did not have a better way to treat them when dealing with such small uterine fibroids. Why do you say that?

This involves several methods of treating uterine fibroids. The first is follow-up observation. The disadvantage of this method is that if you do nothing, no matter where the uterine fibroids grow, in most cases they will grow slowly.

The second is treatment with medication. There are many kinds of medication. There are many traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions in my country. Some doctors think that traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions are very effective, while some doctors do not think so. In the medical field of Western countries, Chinese herbal medicine is not the main treatment method. Other drug treatments are basically all hormone treatments. When we hear about hormone treatments, everyone is a little worried. Hormone treatments do have some problems. In the treatment of uterine fibroids, hormone therapy is often used as a treatment method before surgical treatment.

The third is surgical treatment. The traditional surgical treatment is hysterectomy. Nowadays, hysterectomy has been abandoned by many doctors, but it is still a very important method for treating uterine fibroids in many local hospitals. In addition, methods with less trauma include laparoscopic myomectomy and hysteroscopic transurethral myomectomy. These two methods are both minimally invasive surgical treatments, but due to the limitations of their technical standards, they have certain requirements for the growth site of uterine fibroids, and the choice of treatment methods has a certain scope of application.

HIFU treatment is not limited by endoscopic treatment technology for subserosal uterine fibroids, such as submucosal uterine fibroids. Therefore, it can treat uterine fibroids in different locations.

HIFU treatment and traditional surgical treatment are completely different in terms of scope selection. The scope of application of traditional surgical treatment generally requires that uterine fibroids are larger than 5cm. This goes back to the original misunderstanding - uterine fibroids can only be treated if they are larger than 5cm, because it is the starting point for the initial selection of surgical treatment scope, so we all wait until the uterine fibroids are larger than 5cm before treating them. With HIFU, there will be no such limitation at all, because HIFU treatment uses ultrasonic monitoring, which is the same as ultrasonic diagnosis. As long as the uterine fibroids can be seen by ultrasound, they can be treated, whether it is 1cm, 2cm or 3cm. As long as it can be seen by ultrasound, there will be conditions for treatment, which greatly shortens the treatment time.

Under such technical conditions, there is no need to wait until the uterine fibroids grow to 5cm before treatment, because when the uterine fibroids grow to 5cm, it may not be just one uterine fibroid, but multiple uterine fibroids. The treatment effect of multiple uterine fibroids will definitely be different from when the uterine fibroids are smaller and fewer. Therefore, I hope everyone will remember one thing: after discovering uterine fibroids, they should be treated as soon as possible if there are conditions, whether the uterine fibroids are 2cm or 3cm, in order to avoid more serious problems in the future, early treatment is definitely better.
