How long will it take to give birth if the contractions are every five minutes?

Uterine contractions in pregnant women may be a sign of impending birth. However, uterine contractions are divided into pathological and false uterine contractions, so only when true uterine contractions occur can it be considered as delivery of the fetus. Pathological uterine contractions have a certain periodicity. So, how long will it take to give birth if regular 5-minute contractions occur?

Pregnant women experience periodic uterine contractions, and the frequency of uterine contractions increases, which also indicates that delivery is about to come. The initial pathological uterine contraction has a long-term periodicity, and abdominal pain will occur with the uterine contraction. Then the frequency will gradually decrease and become very periodic. Moreover, this kind of regular periodic uterine contraction occurs about once every 5 minutes, so the female cervical opening should be checked in time.

Generally, if the cervix is open to three fingers, you need to enter the delivery room, because if there is 5 minutes of uterine contraction and the cervix is open to three fingers, it means that the birth will be imminent, and the baby can be delivered within a few tens of minutes.

When uterine contraction pain occurs, the doctor must also distinguish whether it is pathological uterine contraction or false uterine contraction. Generally, false uterine contractions have a shorter periodicity, while pathological uterine contractions initially have an interval of more than ten minutes between contractions, and then the interval between each contraction will gradually decrease. Therefore, when this type of uterine contraction occurs, pregnant women must go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible and then give birth to avoid accidents during pregnancy.

Uterine contractions in pregnant women before delivery

The main sign before delivery is regular uterine contractions. The speed of cervical dilation has a great relationship with the degree of uterine contraction. If there are regular and gradually increasing uterine contractions, lasting 30 seconds or more, with an interval of 5 to 6 minutes, the upper abdomen feels more comfortable than before, the appetite increases significantly, the breathing is more brisk than before, and there is a small amount of vaginal bleeding, these are all signs of delivery.

The entire delivery process for the first birth takes about 12 to 18 hours, and for some pregnant women it may take even longer due to some reasons. Therefore, it should be noted that delivery is a process that requires waiting. Uterine contraction plays a leading role in shortening the waiting process.

As uterine contractions increase, on the one hand, it can promote the dilation of the cervical opening and accelerate the progress of the delivery process. On the other hand, it also causes pregnant women to feel heaviness, soreness or tearing pain in the lower abdomen or lumbar sacral area. You should know that every uterine contraction is accompanied by the descent of the baby from the dilation of the cervix, but these are all very slow. Generally, it takes a long time for the cervical opening to dilate to 3 centimeters. Once it reaches 3 centimeters, the delivery process will progress much faster.

The discomfort of pregnant women before delivery varies from person to person, but most of them start with uterine contraction. 12% of pregnant women have their water breaking before the delivery process, which is early water breaking. Regardless of the circumstances of the water breaking, you must go to the hospital, because water breaking sometimes may lead to umbilical cord prolapse, especially when the presenting part is not large or the presenting part has not descended to the pelvis. Therefore, pregnant women should go to the hospital for pregnancy check-up in time to ensure the safety of maternal and child products.
