HPV mainly includes high-risk infection and low-risk infection. High-risk infection can cause cervical cancer, and there are no symptoms in the early stages. Low-risk infection can also cause skin warts and genital warts. Generally, warts will appear about three months after infection, and there are no symptoms before the warts appear.

There are three possible outcomes of HPV infection: spontaneous resolution, persistent infection, and progression to cervical cancer. It will disappear on its own mainly for people under 30 years old. Persistent infection means being infected with this virus, and still being infected with HPV when you go for a follow-up visit half a year later. This is a persistent infection, which requires care. The last one is, for example, being diagnosed with HPV infection but ignoring it, until half a year later when you go to the hospital for a physical examination and it turns out to be cervical cancer. By then there is no good way to deal with it.

The HPV virus can remain dormant for a long time, and some people may carry it for life. It usually takes many years to develop into cervical cancer. Some people never develop cancer throughout their life, which is related to their own immune ability.
