There are three possible outcomes of HPV infection: spontaneous resolution, persistent infection, and progression to cervical cancer. Persistent infection means being infected with this virus, and still being infected with HPV when you go for a follow-up visit half a year later. This is a persistent infection, which requires care. The last one is, for example, being diagnosed with HPV infection but ignoring it, until half a year later when you go to the hospital for a physical examination and it turns out to be cervical cancer. By then there is no good way to deal with it.

The HPV virus can remain dormant for a long time, and some people may carry it for life. It usually takes many years to develop into cervical cancer. Some people never develop cancer throughout their life, which is related to their own immune ability.

There are certain differences in the symptoms caused by HPV virus in men and women. Possible gynecological diseases in women: cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, vaginal cancer, anal cancer, head and neck cancer, throat lumps, and male genital warts (cauliflower). Possible male diseases: penile cancer, anal cancer, head and neck cancer, throat lumps, and male genital warts (cauliflower).
