DNA prenatal testing

DNA prenatal testing

Women need to undergo several pregnancy checkups after they become pregnant, and each checkup during the pregnancy stage also has a certain purpose, such as DNA testing. However, some pregnant women are not very familiar with this test, so what does prenatal DNA test do?

1. Prenatal DNA testing is also called minimally invasive prenatal fetal DNA testing, which is a relatively new prenatal diagnostic technology. It uses high-throughput DNA sequencing to test the mineral DNA fragments in the peripheral blood of pregnant women, including the mineral DNA from the fetus, so as to obtain the fetal genetic material and then determine whether the fetus is at risk of suffering from certain diseases.

2. Pregnant women's blood DNA test is mainly used to detect whether the fetus has trisomy 21 Down syndrome, trisomy 13 Patau syndrome, trisomy 18 Maria syndrome, or some other sex chromosome diseases, and has a higher accuracy.

3. Women should choose to do prenatal DNA testing between 12 and 24 weeks of pregnancy, and the test results can usually be obtained within 10 working days. This test is mainly carried out for older pregnant women, such as pregnant women over 35 years old. When Down screening is performed and high-risk symptoms exist, non-invasive DNA follow-up tests can also be carried out.

As of 2012, this method can accurately detect the three major sex chromosome diseases: Down syndrome, Maria syndrome, and Parkinson syndrome. The non-traumatic nature of minimally invasive DNA prenatal testing can avoid the risks of miscarriage and infection caused by invasive diagnosis. The perfect features of DNA sequencing technology ensure that the accuracy of the technology can reach 99.2%. Pregnant women over 12 weeks can be tested and the test results can be obtained within 10 working days.
