Advantages and disadvantages of artificial insemination

Advantages and disadvantages of artificial insemination

Artificial insemination is a very popular assisted reproductive technology at present. It is a method that can help many infertile couples to become pregnant. It is a technology that introduces male sperm into the female reproductive system through non-sexual means to make her pregnant. There are many factors that affect the success of artificial insemination. In addition to having good quality sperm and grasping the chance of fertilization, the treatment cycle, the duration of infertility, the age of the inseminator and the cause of the disease also have a great relationship. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of artificial insemination?

(1) Advantages of artificial insemination

Its advantage is that it can help some couples who have difficulty conceiving to become pregnant successfully. It mainly applies to the case that the man's sperm density is relatively too small and the motility is poor, so it cannot meet the egg in a normal way, or because of immune factors, the man's sperm cannot normally pass through the natural barrier of the cervical mucus of the newborn woman and cannot become pregnant normally, or the couple has had sex for a long time, but cannot find the definite cause of infertility. In these cases, artificial insemination can be used to get a chance to become pregnant. Moreover, compared with in vitro fertilization, the advantages of artificial insemination are low cost, simple process, less suffering for female friends, and fewer complications, making it a very good choice.

(2) Disadvantages of artificial insemination

Not all people are suitable for artificial insemination. This is a major drawback. Artificial insemination must have normally developed eggs, normal range of active sperm, and a complete female reproductive structure and at least one smooth bilateral fallopian tube to perform artificial insemination. Moreover, artificial insemination may lead to multiple pregnancies, and fetal reduction will be required in the middle and late stages. The probability of ectopic pregnancy is also higher than that of normal pregnant women. In addition, due to early ovulation induction, uterine and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome may occur.

In general, artificial insemination has a certain scope of application and advantages and disadvantages. For infertile couples, detailed pre-pregnancy consultation is necessary to find an assisted reproductive method that suits them, so that the possibility of pregnancy can be greater!
