How to deal with white spots on nipples

Breastfeeding mothers will encounter such problems as white spots on nipples

It is one of them, and it often recurs. So, how do white spots on nipples appear and how should we deal with them?

1. Use caution when puncturing with a needle

Many mothers will directly prick the white spots with a needle , but this approach also carries the risk of infection, and it is easy to relapse after picking, and the spots will become deeper and deeper over time. If they are not picked properly, they will bleed, increasing the risk of infection.

If the mother feels unbearable pain and has to squeeze, in order to prevent infection, please seek help from medical staff and disinfect the skin and equipment before proceeding.

2. Correct the breastfeeding posture and feed frequently

Correct the baby's sucking posture, ensure that most of the nipples are in the baby's mouth, increase the frequency of feeding, and try to let the baby break the white spots or white bubbles. The blocked milk outlet may become smooth and the lumps will disappear.

Note: Do not use a manual breast pump to fully suck out the lumps, because the manual breast pump cannot effectively suck out the lumps, which will stimulate more milk flow, causing increased milk secretion and increased swelling and pain. The small white spots will also rub against the manual breast pump, and the white bubbles may develop into cracks.

3. Apply a cotton towel to the nipple

Soak a cotton towel with warm water and apply it to the nipple. The temperature does not need to be too high. Apply it for about 5-10 minutes before giving it to the baby. Warm water will soften the nipple, making it easier for the baby to break white spots or blisters.

4. Apply erythromycin ointment

Apply erythromycin ointment to the entire nipple, especially to the white spot area. After waiting for a while, squeeze the nipple with one hand to squeeze out the white spot, and use the other hand to wipe horizontally with a medical cotton swab, maintaining the same position until the white spot is wiped out, and then discharge milk. (Be careful not to scratch the nipples)

5. Burn the loofah into ashes and apply it to the nipples

If the white spot is blocked again after a few days of squeezing, you can burn the loofah into ashes, mix the ashes and sesame oil into a paste, and apply it on the nipple after the child finishes feeding, which is conducive to unblocking and anti-inflammatory. Just wash your baby clean before drinking milk next time.
