What is ovulation?

What is ovulation?

A woman's ovulation period refers to the time before and after her ovulation. If a couple has sex during this period, there is a high possibility of pregnancy. [1] Normal women of childbearing age have a menstrual period once a month. The period from the beginning of menarche to the first day of the next menarche is called a menstrual cycle.

From the perspective of contraception, each physiological cycle of a woman can be divided into menstrual period, ovulation period and safe period.

If a woman has sexual intercourse within a certain period of time before and after ovulation, she may become pregnant. This period of time is called the "ovulation period".

A basic introduction to women's ovulation period

In a normal reproductive period, the ovaries release a perfect egg every month. After the egg is released, it enters the fallopian tubes and can usually survive for 1-2 days, while the sperm produced by men lasts for a long time. Sperm usually remain intact in the female reproductive system for 2-3 days, and the ability to become pregnant is around 48 hours. If a woman has sexual intercourse within a certain period of time before and after ovulation, she may become pregnant. This period of time is called the "ovulation period".

It is very important to grasp this stage. On the one hand, it can give couples who suffer from infertility due to missing the woman's ovulation period a great chance of pregnancy. On the other hand, it can also allow couples who do not want to get pregnant temporarily to avoid pregnancy by missing the "ovulation period" and having sex in the absence of other contraceptive methods.

How to calculate female ovulation period

Common ways to calculate "ovulation period" are:

1. Observe cervical mucus (must be done in the hospital).

2. Method of measuring body temperature during ovulation period. That is: the body temperature measured when the body wakes up after a long sleep (usually in the morning) and before any activities or talking is the ovulation temperature. Under normal circumstances, the body temperature of a woman during ovulation is lower in the first half of the menstrual period and lower during ovulation. It may suddenly or slowly rise by 0.3-0.6℃ within 24 hours to a few days after ovulation.

Therefore, it is best to measure the ovulation temperature from the first day of menarche, adhere to the daily measurement, and record it on coordinate paper for observation and analysis.

3. Method for calculating menstrual date. That is: It is believed that each ovulation period should be about 14 days before the menarche, so the 5 days before ovulation - 5 days after ovulation is called the "ovulation period". As everyone knows, most women's menstruation is not so regular. In comparison, the first two methods are more reliable, but they are somewhat inconvenient. Here we introduce to you in detail a simple and more reliable calculation method, which I hope will be of some help to you.

Female ovulation observation

If you observe carefully, your menstrual period is very regular: once every 28 days, then you can add the longest and shortest days of your menstrual cycle to 28 days, substitute them into the formula, and you can calculate your "ovulation period" as: the 10th to 17th day of your first menstruation. This type of calculation method uses the first day of the current menarche as the reference point and counts the days forward, rather than using the next menarche as the reference point and counting backwards, so it is not easy to make mistakes. After finding the "ovulation period", if you want a baby, you can start from the first day of the "ovulation period", have sex once every day, and continue for several months, and you are very likely to get pregnant. If you don’t want to get pregnant, you need to miss the “ovulation period” before having sex.
