Chocolate Cyst

Chocolate Cyst

Chocolate cyst is a special term for female ovarian cysts. I believe that women should know more or less about ovarian cysts. It’s just that the severity and form of ovarian cysts are different for each woman, so there are many different types of ovarian cysts. This type of chocolate cyst is also known as endometriosis cyst. Today’s article will provide women with some knowledge about chocolate cysts.

What is a chocolate cyst?

Among various gynecological diseases, chocolate cysts are not paid much attention by many people. Therefore, people do not have enough understanding of this disease. Let's take a look at what chocolate cysts are.

Ovarian chocolate cysts, also known as ovarian endometriomas, are lesions of endometriosis. Under normal circumstances, the endometrium grows in the uterine cavity, and the effect of estrogen in the receptors decreases once a month, forming menstruation. If during menstruation, the shed endometrial fragments enter the pelvic cavity and the menstrual blood passes through the fallopian tubes, they will be implanted on the surface of the ovaries or other parts of the pelvic cavity to form ectopic cysts. This ectopic endometrium is also affected by sex hormones and decreases repeatedly with the menstrual cycle.

Chocolate cysts may gradually enlarge and sometimes rupture during or after menstruation, but rarely become malignant. Although ovarian chocolate cysts are benign diseases, they have malignant behaviors such as proliferation, infiltration, metastasis, and recurrence. This type of ovarian cyst is one of the most common diseases among women of childbearing age between 25 and 45 years old, with an incidence rate of 10% to 15%. Endometriotic lesions grow larger over time, gradually eroding normal tissue and causing irreversible damage to ovarian tissue. Severe cases require surgery.

How to treat chocolate cysts

There are many ways to treat chocolate cysts. During the treatment process, if you can understand the treatment methods, you will get a good treatment effect. So how to treat chocolate cysts?

1. Western medicine treatment

Chocolate cysts may recur after treatment, and recurrence after surgery is very harmful. Therefore, patients who undergo surgery should pay attention to regular checkups in the hospital.

Characteristics of Western medicine treatment: Western medicine treatment is faster, but relapse is also easy. Correct application of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy can improve the survival rate of patients with recent malignant chocolate cysts and reduce the recurrence of chocolate cysts.

2. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

Traditional Chinese medicine is a relatively conservative treatment method. It starts from the basics, regulating the functions of the organs, restoring their healthy state, healing the roots of the roots, and treating them dialectically.

Characteristics of TCM treatment: The effect is relatively slow, but the recurrence rate after treatment is very low. During TCM treatment, it is necessary to closely observe whether the cyst has any changes. If there are signs of increase, surgical treatment must be performed promptly.
