How often should I do B-ultrasound in the third trimester of pregnancy?

In the later stages of pregnancy, the due date is approaching, and pregnant mothers are looking forward to the arrival of the baby. In addition, the frequency of prenatal checkups is much more frequent than before. During the process of prenatal checkups, B-ultrasound examinations are inevitable because it can vividly show the growth and development of the fetus. So in the later stages of pregnancy, when is the best time to have an ultrasound, and how often should the ultrasound be done?

When is the best time to have an ultrasound in the later stages of pregnancy? Why?

In the later stages of pregnancy, three B-ultrasound examinations are generally required. Once around 30-32 weeks of pregnancy, once at 36 weeks of pregnancy, and the last time before the pregnant woman gives birth.

1. The most important thing about B-ultrasound examination at 30-32 weeks of pregnancy: fetal position examination

At 30-32 weeks of pregnancy, during the maternal check-up, the doctor will use a ruler to measure the uterine height and fetal abdominal circumference, palpate the mother's abdomen to determine the posture of the fetal body, and then further perform B-ultrasound examination to determine whether the baby's fetal position is normal.

If the fetus is in a transverse position, the doctor will ask the pregnant mother to do the chest-knee position or the stacked chain position to correct the fetal position. If the fetal position has not been corrected before 34 weeks of pregnancy, cesarean section should be considered.

2. The most important thing to check at 36 weeks of pregnancy is the status of the fetal umbilical cord, amniotic fluid, embryo, etc.

At 36 weeks of pregnancy, pregnant mothers need to undergo fetal heart rate monitoring and B-ultrasound examination.

The content of this B-ultrasound examination is mainly to check the growth and development of the fetus, whether the umbilical cord is wrapped around the neck, determine the amniotic fluid flow, the maturity of the embryo, etc.

3. The most important thing about B-ultrasound examination before delivery is to understand the condition of the fetus in the uterine cavity and decide on the delivery method.

It is the last B-ultrasound examination of the pregnant mother before delivery. It is mainly to comprehensively check and grasp the detailed situation of the fetus in the uterine cavity, so as to finally determine the fetal position, grasp the size of the fetus, the maturity of the placenta, whether there is umbilical cord around the neck, whether the amniotic fluid of the pregnant woman is turbid, etc., in order to make the final assessment of delivery.

The doctor will assess whether the pregnant mother is suitable for natural birth or cesarean section based on the detailed conditions of the pregnant mother and fetus. If the fetal position is normal, the fetal size is appropriate, and the shape and size of the pregnant mother's pelvis are normal, then the conditions for natural birth are met. If the fetus is in a transverse position, the fetus is too large, or the pregnant mother is too small, then a caesarean section is the only option.

Of course, if the pregnant mother has special circumstances, she can perform B-ultrasound examination according to her own needs. After all, the safety of maternal and child products is the most important.
