Width of lateral ventricle at 24 weeks of pregnancy

Width of lateral ventricle at 24 weeks of pregnancy

Products are the hope of every family, but not every family is so lucky. When the baby was not born yet, the pregnant woman checked the fetus's cerebral ventricle and found it was not within the normal range. This is undoubtedly bad news, but it does not mean that there is no hope if the fetal cerebral ventricle is not within the standard value range. It also depends on whether the baby can be absorbed during the growth process. So how much is the standard value of the fetal lateral ventricle?

The fetal lateral ventricle should be less than 1 cm, mild cases are 1 to 1.5 cm, and 1.5 cm or more is abnormal. Hydrocephalus refers to the excessive accumulation of brain tissue in the ventricular system, enlargement of the lateral ventricles, increased pressure and ventricular hypertrophy. Generally speaking, the dilation of the triangular area of the lateral ventricle is 1.5 cm, and the wider the atrial dilation, the more serious it is. If the triangle is 1.2 to 1.4 cm wide and the choroid plexus in the atrium exceeds 50%, it is generally considered normal. If the complex shrinks, it is considered to be hydrocephalus.

When the fetus is in a stage of rapid growth and development, the fetal brain grows and develops faster. When the amount of brain tissue produced in the brain significantly exceeds the system's circulatory volume, a mild enlargement of the atrial system occurs. If the B-ultrasound examination is performed during this period, the examination results cannot be used as the basis for the diagnosis of hydrocephalus. Because as the human brain develops, this mild swelling will gradually subside. When hydrocephalus is significant, it is usually manifested as the brain filling with fluid, provided that there is no obvious abnormality in the growth and development of the remaining brain tissue, and no abnormalities are found in the TORCH series of tests.

There are many reasons for hydrocephalus. In addition to the excess of brain tissue, it is also caused by poor absorption or blockage of the midbrain. Some diseases such as intracranial hemorrhage, infection, and complications can cause hydrocephalus, and hydrocephalus can occur at any time and place during pregnancy. Therefore, even if the human brain develops normally in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, hydrocephalus may occur in the late pregnancy. Therefore, color Doppler ultrasound examination during pregnancy is necessary. In addition, some cases may be mistaken for hydrocephalus. An experienced ultrasound examiner will compare the relevant factors to make a reliable diagnosis. Mild abnormalities found during pregnancy can be diagnosed through dynamic observation.

I believe that after the above introduction, expectant parents will have a certain understanding of the standard values of the fetal lateral ventricle. As mothers we must relieve stress. If we find that the fetal ventricle is not within the normal range, we must examine it, choose an effective method for treatment, and finally clarify the situation. This is to protect the baby's future health and the happiness of every family.
