Distinguish between menstruation and lochia during the confinement period

After giving birth, women will experience two processes: the resumption of menstruation and the discharge of lochia after childbirth. The lochia of postpartum women is very similar to the menstrual period. Some women suddenly have their periods again when the discharge of lochia is almost over, causing them to think it is all lochia, and they don't know that they have their periods, and they often confuse the two. So what is the difference between postpartum menstruation and postpartum lochia?

The difference between menstrual period and postpartum lochia during the confinement period:

1. Color syndrome

The lochia of postpartum women lasts for a long time and generally has three stages, including bright red lochia, pink serous lochia, and white lochia. Bright red lochia lasts about a week after delivery, while serous lochia lasts within 14 days after delivery, and white lochia lasts until 6 weeks after delivery. Among them, bright red lochia is more similar to postpartum menstruation. The color and time of postpartum menstruation are different from normal menstruation, and it is not easy to have pink or milky white secretions.

2. Time of appearance

The time of postpartum menstruation is not fixed. If women choose to breastfeed, they usually have their period in about six months. If they do not breastfeed, they may have their first menstruation in about 40 days. The lochia of the parturient appears 6 weeks after delivery.

3. Duration and quantity

Postpartum lochia appears within 6 weeks after giving birth, and occurs every day, while the menstrual period lasts for 7 days, once a month, and the menstrual flow is no different from normal menstrual period.

How long does it take for a pregnant woman to have her period after giving birth?

Postpartum menstruation has a lot to do with the pregnant woman's physical condition, delivery method, diet, body condition, and whether or not she is breastfeeding, so the time of postpartum menstruation is different. If the pregnant woman chooses to exclusively breastfeed after giving birth, most of the time the menarche occurs about 6-8 months after giving birth. If she does not breastfeed, the menarche may occur about 40 days after giving birth, which is easy to be confused with lochia.

However, there are some special cases where some breastfeeding pregnant women do not have their period until about a year after giving birth. This is mainly due to the result of estrogen in the pregnant woman's body. No matter when your period comes, ladies should not worry that it is caused by illness. The time of menstruation after childbirth is not fixed. Ladies only need to observe whether the amount and color of menstruation are normal. If any abnormality is found, you need to go to the hospital for a physical examination.

What are the common menstrual problems after childbirth?

1. Keep warm

After giving birth, women need to keep warm at all times. During the menstrual period after giving birth, women must not let their lower abdomen get cold, otherwise it is easy to cause uterine coldness, blood stasis, menstrual pain and other symptoms.

2. Eat more nourishing and healthy food

During the menstrual period after childbirth, women should eat more foods rich in iron to avoid anemia. You can also eat more nutritious ingredients such as fish roe, shrimp, beef liver, black beans, walnut meat, sea cucumber, black-bone chicken, beef, etc. to supplement adequate nutrients.

3. Release stress

If a woman is under too much pressure at work, it will cause delayed menstruation or irregular menstruation after childbirth. This is because excessive stress affects the woman's endocrine system. At this time, she must maintain a relaxed mood.

4. Maintain a stable lifestyle

Overwork, staying up late, and poor sleep quality can all cause irregular menstruation in women, so after giving birth, you must make sure your diet and daily routine is regular to keep your menstrual period normal.
