Do I need to avoid certain foods after the confinement period?

Breast milk is the most natural, safe and nutritious food for babies, and the diet of breastfeeding mothers is closely related to the amount and quality of breast milk. So are you clear about the dietary taboos during breastfeeding? What are the dietary standards during breastfeeding? What should you avoid eating during breastfeeding? What are the common dietary issues during breastfeeding? These are all things that new breastfeeding mothers should know.

Generally, women should pay attention to rest after the confinement period, especially pregnant women who are exclusively breastfeeding. They should try to ensure adequate sleep and a proper diet to facilitate the metabolism of milk. After the confinement period, you should also pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene to prevent endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, salpingitis, etc. caused by postpartum lochia. For pregnant women with postpartum lochia, special attention should be paid to contraceptive measures.

In addition, generally 42 days after giving birth, all the human organs have basically returned to their pre-pregnancy state. The recovery time for pregnant women who have undergone caesarean section is generally longer than that for those who have undergone natural delivery. Therefore, even after the confinement period, you should pay attention to rest to promote the body's recovery. Be careful not to overwork to avoid symptoms such as prolapse of the anterior and posterior vaginal wall.

Diet standards during lactation

During breastfeeding, for the health of the mother and the baby, women should eat some foods that help secrete milk and adhere to the three major dietary principles:

1. Drink more light food

Light food is beneficial to the secretion of milk, so in addition to having nourishing soup at every meal, women during breastfeeding should also consume at least 2700-3200cc of water every day, which can be supplemented by milk, water, rye juice and soy milk.

2. Eat more protein foods

Mothers who are breastfeeding need to take in more protein, which can be obtained through fish, lean meat, etc. Vegetarian mothers can also choose high-protein foods such as soybeans, nuts, and legumes, and add ginger or salad oil when eating.

3. Avoid foods that may cause weaning

Ginseng, amaranth, barley tea, malt, etc. are common foods that can reduce milk production, so breastfeeding mothers should pay attention to avoiding them. In addition, eating cold foods can also cause milk to stop flowing, so it should be avoided.

What to avoid during breastfeeding

1. Foods that prevent lactation

Such as meat products: rabbit meat, yellow croaker, goose meat, pig heart, frog meat, etc. Vegetables: chili pepper, pepper, raw garlic, fennel, amaranth, purslane, winter melon, loofah, cucumber, eggplant, maltose, ginseng, etc. can all inhibit the secretion of milk.

2. Excessively stimulating ingredients

Pregnant women after giving birth are suitable for eating foods with light taste, little or no irritation, and should avoid eating some highly irritating foods, such as chili peppers, alcohol, tobacco, coffee, and spicy food seasonings.

(1) Alcohol: Drinking too much alcohol during breastfeeding will hinder the normal secretion of milk in women, affect uterine contractions, and alcohol will also affect the healthy growth of the baby through breast milk.

(2) Freshly ground coffee: Drinking a lot of coffee can make the human nerve center excited, stimulate heart muscle contraction, and affect the baby through breast milk. Women who are breastfeeding should stop drinking it.

(3) Condiments that are too irritating: such as chili peppers, fennel, and garlic. If consumed by breastfeeding mothers, they can easily cause internal heat and sores, leading to difficulty in defecation, while babies can experience drooling, stomatitis, and other discomforts. Therefore, it is not recommended for consumption.
